Mi madre es tan frágil y tan fuerte como una flor silvestre que nace libre abriéndose camino entre el concreto. Como todas las mujeres del mundo se reafirman contundente en la naturaleza.
My mother is as fragile and as strong as a wild flower that grows free and makes its way through the concrete. Like all the women of the world she asserts herself forcefully in nature.
Es color, viento, mar caribe, sol, bruma, nieve, bosque tropical y misterio.
It is color, wind, Caribbean sea, sun, mist, snow, tropical forest and mystery.
Mi madre siempre busca la manera de hacernos sentir confortables consagrando los derechos sagrados de hospitalidad con los demás. Por la mañanas ve pasar las nubes sorbiendo un café que disfruta con sus pensamientos resueltos, lentos y en calma.
My mother is always looking for ways to make us feel comfortable by enshrining the sacred rights of hospitality with others. In the mornings she watches the clouds go by sipping a coffee that she enjoys with her resolute, slow and calm thoughts.
Mi madre guarda un pedacito de todas las mujeres en ella, pues, cualquiera que la conozca consigue un lugar para la ternura; sabe cómo llegar al corazón de la manera más simple, también con una palabra de aliento que nace con cada impulso. A veces, cae, pero se levanta. Duda, se aflige, y vuelve a intentarlo mientras nos damos la mano para afirmar nuestros lazos inseparables de amor, solidaridad y unión.
My mother keeps a little piece of all women in her, for, anyone who knows her gets a place for tenderness; she knows how to reach the heart in the simplest way, also with a word of encouragement that is born with every impulse. Sometimes she falls, but she gets up. She hesitates, grieves, and tries again as we shake hands to affirm our inseparable bonds of love, solidarity and union.
Toda ella es tiempo y espacio. Un sinfín de recuerdos, de secretos que dan vueltas a paso lento aunque no deja de pegar una carrera cuando le pasan por el frente.
All of her is time and space. A myriad of memories, of secrets that go round and round at a slow pace, although she does not stop running when they pass in front of her.
Mi madre Aura no cabe en ella misma, es pequeña de estatura pero grande por dentro. Lleva heridas en la memoria que ha sabido comprender como una flor en su madurez cuando esparce sus pétalos movida por el viento.
My mother Aura does not fit in herself, she is small in stature but big inside. She carries wounds in her memory that she has been able to understand like a flower in its maturity when it spreads its petals moved by the wind.
Ella ha sabido conformar una familia cohesionada junto a mi padre y cantar el sueño que sueña despierto. Es aguerrida. Yo creo que puede destruir la injusticia con las manos. Es incasable. Siempre está en movimiento como el país, o como la tierra misma en el mismo sentido del horizonte.
She has been able to form a cohesive family with my father and sing the daydream. She is tough. I believe she can destroy injustice with her hands. She is tireless. She is always moving like the country, or like the earth itself in the same direction of the horizon.
A ella le gusta cocinar un rico arroz con pollo, también dulces criollos o típicos de Venezuela como jalea de mando, dulce de lechosa y arroz con leche. Siempre tiene algo que ofrecer y mucho más cuando se reúne con sus amigas a compartir un acto religioso, o sencillamente a conversar. Entre otras cosas es muy familiar, está orgullosa de su único nieto a quien consiente de manera exagerada a veces porque lo complace en casi todo.
She likes to cook delicious arroz con pollo (rice with chicken), as well as Creole or typical Venezuelan sweets such as jalea de mando, dulce de lechosa and arroz con leche (rice pudding). She always has something to offer and much more when she meets with her friends to share a religious act, or simply to talk. Among other things she is very familiar, she is proud of her only grandson whom she spoils in an exaggerated way sometimes because she pleases him in almost everything.

También le encanta tener matas ornamentales, sembrar otras especies para cocinar: ajíes, tomates, albahaca, cebollín que usa para condimentar su comida. Es una ventaja, además tiene una conexión especial a la hora de preparar porque alardea de buena manera que es fruto de su cosecha. Tal vez, sea una herencia de mi abuela, que en su casa se proveía de lo que tenía sembrado en su patio lleno de árboles frutales y otras hortalizas.
He also loves to have ornamental plants, to plant other species for cooking: peppers, tomatoes, basil, chives that he uses to season his food. It is an advantage, besides, he has a special connection at the time of preparation because he boasts in a good way that it is the fruit of his harvest. Perhaps, it is an inheritance from my grandmother, who in her house provided herself with what she had planted in her yard full of fruit trees and other vegetables.
Como buena venezolana, es agradable, con buen humor, porfiada de vez en cuando, tenaz, decidida, un buen ejemplo para impregnarse de sus cualidades y virtudes, pues los errores los convierte en sanos juicios iluminados con cada crepúsculo.
As a good Venezuelan, she is pleasant, with good humor, stubborn from time to time, tenacious, determined, a good example to imbibe her qualities and virtues, because she turns mistakes into healthy judgments enlightened with each twilight.
