Stone offering basin from the mastaba (5th Dynasty 2434 - 2305 BC)

The above stone basin verified one tomb discovered in the site of Gebelein, the hieroglyphic inscription on the stone basin indicates the tomb belong to the courtier Perim. The basin placed by a recessed niche that echoed the typical structure of the false door stela, it had been used during the presentation ritual of the funerary offering. Today we continue to see the artifacts and history of the Old Kingdom period. I would like share with you another statue and one tunics from Old Kingdom period.

The statue of Iteti ( 2543 - 2435 BC)

The statue shown in the photos composed of two parts, the middle part is not the original one, were found during the excavation of noble Iteti (The second Pharaoh recorded in Turin King List) tomb.

According to the words from archaeologist, the sculpture must have originally stood in a chamber with no apertures built inside a mastaba. This chamber, called a serdab, usually stood near the cult chapel with the false door stela. The serdab was used to house the image of the deceased, a substitute of sorts placed there to receive the offerings brought to the tomb. The face of this statue was damaged, probably to exact the metal and hard stones the inlaid eyes were made of. Nevertheless, we can still appreciate how accurately the facial features and wig were carved, a reflection of the high status of the subject. The mustache, carved in very low relief, is still visible. Mustaches were very fashionable during the 4th Dynasty. The hieroglyphs on the left side of the seat list Iteti's titles.

Pleated tunic (2435 2118 BC)

As you can easily imagine, linen pleated tunics and textiles crafted more than 4200 years ago are extremely rare artifacts. However, the Turin Egypt museum has about a dozen specimens. They were discovered in female burials mostly from the late Old Kingdom, during excavations conducted by the museum at the sites of Gebelein. These tunics were sometimes worn by the deceased, sometimes placed on his or her body. [//]:# (!steemitworldmap 45.0684296 lat 7.6843041 long ME10 d3scr)

In the next post, we will continue to see the valuable works of art in Old Kingdom period. This the tenth post I shared with you the amazing artifacts from Turin Egypt museum, I noticed there are many specific words for describing the people's name, place's name or something related to the funerary when I wrote this post. I suppose they are unfamiliar with the people who first read my post, so I strongly suggest you read my previous posts from beginning. I believe you will enjoy this journey, because the museum has a very good order of exhibitions, my posts also follow such order. I am not the researcher of history or archaeology. Just want to share with you some beautiful antiquities. If I made some critical errors in my post, please feel free to help me correct them, thank you very much.
