A video of bombers that were forced to dogfight with fighter aircraft, and lived to tell the tale!

in #history6 years ago

Once in a while, an exceptional bomber air crew is forced by circumstances into a dogfight with actual fighters. This is always a terrible mismatch, but sometimes, the result is magic, and they stand Very Tall!

The first on this video is a pilot in a SBD Dauntless dive bomber. he tangled with three Zeros, and you need to watch this Man take a hopelessly outdated bomber aircraft into a close fur ball...and LIVE!

The B17 on this video was the highest decorated air mission in WWII! These were MEN!

The last cut is a Wild Weasel fighter bomber that mixed it up more than once, with Migs. When he landed, he flamed out for lack of fuel, but landed dead stick!

Watch this twice, this is some amazing stuff!

I love watching dogfights. Although I might suggest talking about the content more and what you think so that there is no chance of "plagarism" by having the video linked.

I listed the you tube video as the source. The only time I have been dinged for content found elsewhere was when I included a Bible verse, and the bot found the same content elsewhere on the web. The bots are of questionable use.

That said, I read a LOT of History, and was aware of the B-17, but the others were new to me, and I like that! I was most impressed with the SBD, his plane was a small step up from a bi-plane. Yet he took out three of the best fighters of the time, in a furball! That is a PILOT; and I was glad to see that they moved him into fighters!

I write everything I post, and the only cut and pastes are referenced, so I quit even considering plagarism; as I add the links to support my statements.

:)

Well fair enough! I just wanted to give a freindly warning as some automated systems can be finicky!

Yes, I think that these bots detract from steemit, and cause unneeded frustrations! I have seen posts where the author quoted his sources, and had a bot ding him for the very reference he posted; because they didn't figure out the posted reference!

>:(

Hopefully the new system will help with some of that, I backed out while the fork happened and amd just getting back into the swing of things.

It was brutal! Not very well planned or tested, but they have patched the problems well, since they cut over to the new software.

Good to have you back! Hope it is not too restrictive here!

Be blessed, and don't get hard forked, ROFLOL!

:)

Cool stuff. I gotta believe those bomber pilots and gunners just happened to be superior pros than the opposition, because the machinery sure can't explain it.

Real MEN for sure, especially the SBD, he had zero chance! They all did very well, with BAD situations.

:)

SBD? Steem-backed dollars?...lol...

Dauntless, ROFLOL I hadn't noticed the other, that is interesting! I am sure he would have rather had Steem Backed Dollars, than the Dauntless about then, I pitied the gunner!

:)

LOL...I hear ya!

Can you imagine, a series of eight G turns while you are supposed to be shooting at the enemy planes? When fliers wash out because they can't handle the G forces, they move them to navigators, radio Men, and Gunners....

So he spent this whole battle in and out of consciousness! That sucks, because if you are out, you can't even bail out to save yourself!

:O

Wow...yeah Amazing. I would not ever make a good pilot. I get sick just going on little "whale watch" boats.

I think that SBD pilot just got Mad! That made him VERY dangerous, ROFLOL! When he understood that he couldn't run away, it left him no other option but to do the fight of his life!

The B-17 flight was the most decorated mission in WWII...is was that impressive!

:D

LOL...I hear ya!

That plane would be worth a fortune in steem dollars today, ROFLOL! :)

:)

Well, if it were restored, I suppose...lol... A pile of rust isn't worth THAT much.

Even a heap is worth a fortune these days. There are so few left in the World.
.
They dug a P38 out of the ice, and the wreak was worth $100.000.00.

haha! oh my gosh smithlabs, great video! wow. totally amazing and i'm thankful that they can use computer animation to demonstrate what happened.

These were Real MEN that climbed into those planes! I like the animation too, especially where the pilots themselves have direct input!

I had read about the B17. They were the misfits, the crew that was at the end of the list for aircraft, for various reasons. They found this B-17 (tail number 666) in the scrap, because it was so very shot up; but they could get their hands on it!

So they dragged it out of the scrapheap, and rebuilt it, instead of sitting on their hands and waiting for a plane. They got it flight worthy, and found they were still at the bottom of the list for missions! So they started taking the crap missions no one else wanted to fly.

This mission was one of those, and they did it so well, that they were pulled out of aircrew hell and removed from the shit list, and put back on rotation.

This was the MOST decorated air mission of WWII, and there were TWO CMHs awarded!

:'(

well sir that was amazing but maybe you should consider doing some writing and tell everyone about it instead of playing video games all day. some or most wouldn;t be able to take the time to watch that video.

I like to write war History, BUT, it is very poorly reviewed. I will try again, but usually it is a Yawwn to steemit. If I find a better category to sort it under, maybe then I will try again.

:'(

sir smithlabs...what is poorly reviewed? you mean your posts don't get the attention? do you use the "history" tag?

I used History, and I had two people drop me. Not a real problem, I am a big boy; I will just keep on posting.

I just have odd tastes in my posts I guess. That is okay, I just need to find people as crazy as I am to read them, ROFLOL!

:)

no no no sir smithlabs you don't have odd tastes. Your problem is your lack of followers, that's why I suggested to slow down on the posts and concentrate on contacting people and you will gain the followers and many of them will like what you post and stay with you.

what do you mean, two people dropped you? how did they do that, just stopped commenting?

WOW, I replied, and it did Not work?

The engagement league has helped me add followers, and I am happy about that! All they need do is to un-follow on my page, and they disappear. I recently had hippiewithagun un follow me; for paying my real estate taxes...sad to see, I like the kid.

I wonder if steemit can keep up? The main thing that give me confidence is their recovery ability when crashed. Are they floundering? Steem dollars are pretty weak right now. I was told that I must break 500 steem to be a minnow, so I guess I am pond scum. BUT I have been worse than that before, ROFLOL! They tell me I should post 3 to 4 times a day....

So I will keep posting my pond scum and hope for the best. Even at it's worst, it is still better than FB!

:)

@smithlabs, I gave you a vote!
If you follow me, I will also follow you in return!
Enjoy some !popcorn courtesy of @nextgencrypto!

You full yet? THAT is a lot of popcorn!

:D

Thanks, this is an amazing video! These were Amazing MEN!
