This is the El-Badi Palace in Marrakesh, built in 1593 to commemorate the Battle of The Three Kings.

Whoa, wait? What is the Battle of The Three Kings you ask?

The Battle of The Three Kings was fought in 1578 by the Sultan of the Saadiens Abd Al-Malik against his treacherous Uncle Abu Abdallah Mohammed II who was just so recently deposed of his Sultanate. On top of this however Mohammed II cut a deal with the Portugese King Sebastien I who was fiending for some crusade action and together they formed an alliance. Boom. Three kings.

They came together and fought a decisive battle that somehow the outnumbered Al-Malik utterly crushed Mohammed II and his Portugese ally. The real twist to this is that all three kings died in the heat of battle, thus creating a quick end to the throne conflict of the Saadiens and abruptly ending the current Portugese dynasty.

Probably the most famous result of this battle was the ascendance of Al-Malik's brother Ahmad Al-Mansur, probably one of the most famous Arab rulers of all time and also if you play Civ 5, yes it's that guy. Look at this handsome badass son of a gun.

Al-Mansur used the ransom paid by the defeated Portugese to build the El-Badi palace which today is one of Marrakesh's most visited tourist attractions.
