Happy Birthday Nikola Tesla!

in #history7 years ago

Today is the 161st birthday of Nikola Tesla, the genius who gave us Alternating Current and who was prevented from giving the world free electricity! It is said that he filed over 700 patents. After he died, he was finally given his due and was credited as the inventor of radio, not Marconi, as was widely believed.

Nikola is immortalized in the name of a band named after him. The band Tesla even put a spotlight on the Tesla-Marconi issue by naming one of their albums "The Great Radio Controversy". They also talked about the Thomas Edison-Tesla rivalry in their song "Edison's Medicine". David Bowie played Tesla in a 2006 movie and the band They Might Be Giants did a whole song about Tesla that was featured in their album "Nanobots".

It is said that when Albert Einstein was asked how it felt to be the smartest man in the world, he replied: "I wouldn't know. Ask Nikola Tesla."

Happy Birthday Nikola Tesla and thank you!

happy birthday to the person who fell in love with a pigeon

"I have been feeding pigeons, thousands of them for years. But there was one, a beautiful bird, pure white with light grey tips on its wings; that one was different. It was a female. I had only to wish and call her and she would come flying to me. I loved that pigeon as a man loves a women, and she loved me. As long as I had her, there was a purpose to my life."
— Nikola Tesla

Yes, genius and madness are two sides of the same coin :-)

Happy birthday to one of the greatest minds that ever lived!

Indeed. Too bad the establishment was more concerned with profits rather than progress.

More concerned with controlling the populace in my opinion, I believe he had wireless electricity figured out. If utilities were free, governments and bureaucrats have no control over the populace.

I think it was more about money. If electricity is free then the govermnent and their business cronies will not be able to charge us for it. I think it was J.P. Morgan who asked Tesla "Does "it" have a meter?". Of course the answer was no, and that was the beginning of the end for Tesla. Many believe that big business and the government "blackballed" Tesla.

How else to better control a populace than charging them for basic needs which can be provided free?

True. I see your point :-)
