How America was explored
Five hundred years ago North America was an unidentified and nameless country. Only three continents, Europe, Africa and Asia, were known to people. In 1400 and 1500 A.D. finding new countries or places was the hobby of European people. Christopher Columbus, an Italian sailor, was one of them, who began journey to explore new countries all over the world. He was born in 1451 in Italy.
Being a sailor at early stage of his life, he decided to have a journey towards west in search of India. But in lack of money he stopped the expedition. He tried to arrange the fund, but nobody was willing to help him. At last he could manage the fund from the king of Spain and began his voyage to west in 1492. In order to seek for waterways from Europe to Asia, Christopher Columbus reached at an Island and thought the continent as ‘West Indies’ in 1492.
When the sailors landed on that Island, people started to assemble around the voyagers and surprisingly looked at them. He also found many strange trees and flowers there.
Later in 1501 A.D. an Italian sailor, Amerigo Vespucci, followed the route which Columbus used to find new countries and reached the mainland of North America. He thought it as India but later he found it as unknown place. So he named it as America based on his own name.
