That's a good trick. There's a rubber bead left on the engine that will take awhile to get off without scratching it, man, that sealant they used was awesome.
If that if over the crankshaft, leave it alone! It is a main seal....

no it's just residue from the oil pan seal. But when I put the new one on I put sealant on the pan, then put the gasket on.. do you put a bead of sealant on the engine too?
No none on the engine, one side only. More will not help the seal, and will make it hard to remove later.
