Legends of India--1, Tenali Rama Krishna.

Tenali Ramakrishna is well-known 15th century author and poet from Tenali, Andhra Pradesh. He is the one of the eight household poets " Astadigajjalu" of Sri Krishna devaraya, emperor of Vijayanagara empire.

Vijayanagara empire was always filled prosperity and happiness under Krishna devaraya. Foreginers who used to visit from different countries to Vijayanagara empire stunned to see the glory of arts and wealth. It also said to be diamonds were poured as heap and sold in the middle of the roads. There is no place of sadness or violence under the rule of emperor.

Being passionated about arts, emperor always encourage the artists to do gatherings and exhibit their talents. To be truth emperor wrote epic "amuktha malyada" by himself. So you can understand how much he given value to the education and artworks.

He selected 8 of the top scholars & geniuses to be in his court and named them "astadiggajalu" the eight pillars. Our legend Tenali Ramakrishna is also one of them. Tenali always comes up with wit and humor in the court to solve the people problems.

There are hundreds of stories about how Rama Krishna many times impressed the emperor with his celeverness and also saved the empire from Delhi sultanates.

Ramakrishna in childhood was aimless and rejected by many teachers to taught him. Legends says that he became devotee of Kali goddess and prayed to her continous days. Impressed with his dedication and humour, lord Kali blessed him knowledge and said he will became great scholar one day.

A short story :

Once krishnadevaraya wanted to play with Tenali Rama. He ordered Rama to attend in his court. He presented Rama a hen and told him to eat after going home. Being strict Bhramin, Rama is a vegetarian and felt troubled by the king's order before all the members of the court and people.

He took the hen and went home. Day after he usually went to the court. After important discussions, king asked Rama did he ate the hen. Rama said "yes". By that word, king became angry and asked being brahmin how he killed and ate the hen?.

Rama replied I ate my dinner by selling the hen.

King laughed and praised Rama for his answer and told he always mesmerised how Rama handles the situation.

Rama also wrote some series works with his brilliance. His well known work is pandu ranga mahatyam, remarkable for its phrasing and said to be one of 5 top works in Telugu literature.

Rama Krishna was so close to king and Krishna devaraya also showered affection on him. After the king's death, Rama left the fort with heavy heart and remained few years in Tenali.

There were many films based on his stories in different languages through out india. His stories were being made in to comics and cartoon series now a days.
