Hiking Suikerboschfontein - Part 4 - Unusual welcoming committee and hosts.

in #hiking8 years ago

When we arrived we were greeted by an unusual welcoming committee.

I didn't manage to get a shot but this will give you an idea of what they looked like.

A mother warthog and her piglets

10 mins later, walking to the lookout point at the overnight spot I bumped into one of these...

Once again, not fast enough with the camera but this one is pretty similar.

...and then putting the gear down into the bungalows there were these...

The lighting and camera was poor so their coloring is actually more like this specimen below.

Tropical house geckos are what they are called... and you can see why they have house in their name.

They weren't bothered by us in the lease, the whole time we were there... In fact the girls were far more bothered by them in their bathroom.

The other overnight hut had a resident population of bats.

Of the small insectivorous variety. Once again hard to photograph, so here is one the same type off the net...

There were more critters to be found outside once we started hiking... but more on that later.

to be continued...

...and a SHOUT OUT goes to @elyaque for his cool badges... try some.

Very interesting! Thank you for you story.

Thanks for your comment.

@gavvet the piglets of the warthog are so cute!

I dare you to wrestle a mother for one!!!

@gavvet hahaha, I'd rather run than have those
would rather get a fat guinea pig then hahahah

What kind of snake is that?

stupid me... a puff adder, highly venomous

Snakes, and geckos my two favorite things in the world!!! Glad that you enjoyed your trip...

Reptiles have always been my soft spot

that is why i don't go hiking :)

Live a little!!!

Not the whole family agreed with the population of your accomodations then? 8-)

yup... had to do a few "removals" to more suitable locations

Love he baby warthogs :)

I didn't know they would be such a hit!

Its a shame they grow up as then there not so cute

The warthog piglets are pretty adorable. Then they grow up!

yup, they definitely fell out of the ugly tree and hit a few branches on the way down

Those house geckos look really interesting!

You can get up really close and study them or just watch them while lying back after a long walk

I can't even pronounce it correctly! Need to use Google!

archaic Dutch name... some who live here will even battle
