How many of you still have a turntable?
Today I am trying to get back in the game. I have had a lot of things which has preoccupied me and not really time to make the next page of my comic as I should (but instead I succeeded in making a strange painting to a story by @ghostfish).
Now I am slowly trying to get it together - so first things first: a small Steemit post - and as I am listening to Kind of Blue, Miles Davis and Bill Evans fantastic modal-jazz album, on my record player, I decided to ask this:
How many of you still own a turntable?
Here is my hifi - age old and still working without complaint.
I do, but it's not very old; it's Project with a Denon element I got when my Dual gave up. My Luxman L410 amp is ancient, though.
Doesn't have to be old - listening to LPs are what it takes. Project looks a lot like the Rega - simple design.
When the Vinyl craze was going full tilt a few years ago I got my hands on one of those new Crosley turntables and picked up a bunch of classical albums at Salvation army.
The turntable was a freebie. My buddy didn't want it. And after a few minutes I could see why. The quality of those things is awful. They sell for over $100 and must cost under $5 to manufacture. They definitely do not make them like they used to.
Looks like you've got a nice set-up there. How old is that turn table? I think the golden age for these things must have been the late 70s or early 80s.
Haha, that is a real piece of hipster nostalgia gadget ( beaten though by this Sinclair Spectrum remake).
We bought it in the very early nineties.
I hope that ZX spectrum runs better than the cheap record players!
Sounds like your turntable has given you lots of great service, then. And I can see you've got some great classical music in the collection!
I still have one turntable and many records that I bought 30 to 40 years ago. But these days, I don't use the turntable. That may change soon, as I am now retired.
I very often listen to music from my computer that is connected to the hifi. But lately I often listen to LP music. I like the sound better, even though it is of course a minimal difference.
My dad has his turntable still. We go to the record stores in town on the weekend and he adds to his record collection. If you are into collecting physical media, then records make the most sense. CDs are lower quality sound.
It is not that I am relly into colecting things, but I never got rid of them and now people who scrap their collections give them to me (and my wife) because we still own a record player. Funny enough, when we get records we already have, there is plenty of young people in their twenties and early thirties that want the leftovers. Great feeling to give a complete set of early Prince LPs to a young girl.
I love Prince! One of the greatest musicians to ever live. They say he could play like 60 + instruments at a Mozart level.
Me too! I just played some of it for my youngest daughter.
Nice to see here other hifi stuff! :) But in terms of electronics, like (digital) source and transistor amplifier, I'm more into something newer. On the contrary to good old horn speakers, which I prefer. :)
But I still like turntables and we also have one for older vinyl records!
I have a cable from my computer to the amplifier so I can hear my FLAC collection too. Our speakers are Dali 400 which we also bought together with the rest of the system back in the nineties.
Never heard of a horn speaker enthusiast before, but there you go. First I didn't understand what you meant, but then I checked your profile. Just from the aesthetic point of view they are really pretty.
That's surprising me, because there are many horn speaker fans. For example, the Klipschorn is legendary and there are many Klipsch fans out there, especially in America. Besides there are many other good older horn speakers, like Altec A7, Technics SB E10000 etc.

I have seen them I realise, now I looked up Klipschorn. I am not that much of a hifi geek, even though I like good sound. I will definitely try to hear horn speakers if I get the chance. Seems to be popular for DJ soundsystems, that is where I have seen them the most.

I still have my equipment from the 80s, but unfortunately in boxes right now, as I'm still renovating part of our house. But I can't wait to set it all up again.
It was a major thrill, when I got my Dual turn table. Before I had actually built one myself with a FischerTechnik construction kit and parts from an old radio (receiver?), so I could listen to the only record I had... "Unbehagen" by Nina Hagen :-b
I never had a turntable, when I was younger I was using my parent's one. I have many records, but that old Hi-Fi system worked like it was made just yesterday, never had any problems. I think it was a Fisher.
Many years passed since then, I still have the records but not the turntable. I am sure that it is packaged in some box hidden away in a cellar or attic -- at least, I hope it is, because I'd hate to loose this piece of nostalgia...

It is one of those things that surpass their evident value. They actually mean something. I also still have my Walkman and my Atari 2600 among other things. (Not with me, but carefully packed on my parent's house with a radioactivy sign on the box).
A real technology fetishist! I always liked people who could cherish things like that, be it antiquities, art or like you technology. I can too but due to my nomadic childhood I keep the things I really treasure to a minimum and only things that can be carried in a shoulder bag :)
Definitely own a turn table. In fact, this is the new craze now, lol. Everyone is going back to records.
Yes, I have bought new LPs this last year. Never thought that would happen back when the CD was introduced.
Wow, I remember my daddy use to have a turntable but I don't think his still do. With turntable back then, it's always fun in playing music
