Final extraction of comfrey by steam.

in #herbal6 years ago

Once the gravity extraction was done, the final extraction begins. I use a juice extractor designed to make jelly, by extracting juice from fruit.

It is the same unit I used for gravity extraction, for convenience, that I will now use to recover the rest of the comfrey. Using ateam will reduce the Allintoin in the solution a little, but 90% is a lot better than 0%!

Here we see the gravity extraction on the right, and the steam extracted on the left. Notice, that even though both were shaken, only the gravity extracted bottle is thick enough to coat the inside of the jar. This is a good test for viscosity, if you shake it and the jar remains coated, it is thich enough.

The steam extracted liquid does not coat the jar; and must be evaporated by about half to get the required viscosity, in the same crock pot the decoction was done in.

Once the correct viscosity has been achieved, we will move to the last phase. The tincture process will follow in a day or two, when it has thickened.?

Very good.
Will you cover the storage duration, viability and longevity of this?
How long will it keep on the shelf?

According to the experts, comfrey tincture will keep for twenty years if stored in a dark location where it can NOT evaporate. The active compound Allintion is stable, and will remain strong stored in the alcohol.

That said, My last batch lasted less than six months, I supply a lot of people including one Lady that broke her own back in a training accident. I stir up the tincture about once a month, just because; and set aside a 4 oz bottle just in case. :D

That sounds great, thanks for the quality information.

You are very welcome, hope this will allow you to make your own batch! :)

Very cool. You really have that process down to a science, bro. Well done!

btw...is this the thing you say at the end of a game of "hide 'n seek"? You know..."Ollie, ollie in comfrey?"

I remember that a little differently, LOL! :D

You need to email me an address, for your anti brown recluse bite medicine. :)

Cool! Will l@@k for it.... :)

this stuff looks horrible. what do you do, drink this stuff?

When I finish the next step, it will be 100 proof; so I guess you can drink it! It has some internal benefits.

That said; it will penetrate a foot deep in tissue, so it is usually rubbed on the skin. It was originally used (2500 years ago) to speed bone healing, it is still used for that today. The uses I have seen amaze me. It has saved me a shoulder surgery.

This stuff is liquid Gold. :O

where do they still use it today? besides your house.

All homeopathic doctors use this, as well as all herbalists. It can cut bone healing time in half, so ALL Preppers should have comfrey, and be using it now; to avoid learning, in survival situations!

can't you just buy it? how long does it store for?

Yes, it cost $10 an ounce in tincture. I am making about a gallon. It stores for a decade or more in Tincture. Mine never lasts six months, I supply family too. :)
