North – Red – Native American named Henry Bear that lives in Seattle. An environmentalist.

The garage door opened letting in the sunlight. The rectangle shape getting larger across the cement floor until it met the metal of the Model A. Then the sunlight fractured into shadows with the chrome reflecting it back toward the nearest star like a mirror.

Henry Bear stood alone in front of the old steel beast, a relic from his Father, and something that he wanted to pass along to his children.

The car looked great with new paint in the original color. The interior had been redone as well with black leather. Only he had added features like power locks and windows.

As he lifted the hood to the engine, he peered down at the car’s one glaring flaw, the fossil fuel engine.

All original, just as it had been put together on the Ford Motor Company’s factory floor in 1930.

Today Henry Bear would finally removed the engine from its resting place for the first time in 68 years.

Henry Bear had been described by his friends as a visionary. An independently wealthy man, he had time to indulge in his ideas. This car called to him like his Father’s ghost asking for attention.

And so he stood in the garage basking in the sunlight of a new day with a cup of coffee in his hand and ideas for his Hemp Hydrogen Fuel Cell Engine in his mind.

His children, and children’s children, would drive this Model A retrofitted with an engine that would save the planet. Hydrogen in as fuel, an electric spark would combine it with Oxygen for power, and water vapor out the exhaust pipe.

In time, if this invention caught on, it would clean the Earth’s atmosphere and reverse climate change on its own, not to mention whatever else humanity might create.

And so Henry Bear began the laborious task of removing the engine with a hoist. His Garage Attendant helping with a pneumatic power drill to remove the bolts. Once the engine had been removed, the car sat like an old man with no teeth in a rocking chair.

Now the real challenge began. Hemp had been illegal for many years. He could get himself into a bit of trouble to procure some plant material to manifest the idea in his mind. The danger added excitement, yet it also made Henry Bear feel a little sad because the plant couldn’t be used as a drug.

He thought of the trees in the forest that had been cut down when Hemp could have been grown instead. He thought of plastic building up in the Ocean that could be biodegradable. And he thought of the people dying of cancer that could have been cured with CBD. And with these thoughts in his mind he began his work to create the Hemp Hydrogen Fuel Cell Engine.

Cyrus Emerson
