agape
Agape is an English transliterated word borrowed from Greek meaning a self-giving love that is sacrificial with no strings attached.
Often, you see this word Agape in bookstores as the name of the store and they are most of the time selling Christian books about God and Jesus. It is the kind of love God gives to humans that is unconditional and that's why we hear about the salvation plan where Jesus died for the sins of mankind so that they can receive this gift of love. This love is free. This agape love is supposed to draw mankind to live a life of unselfishness, for the good of others.
Most of the love that we experienced are selfish. The friendship love that we share all have conditions. I can't imagine myself dying for a friend, can you?
A kind of agape love that many people experience is the parental love to their children. There are a lot of sacrifices parents need to make for their children. It always begin with a one way street as the child can never give back to the parents when they are young. So this one way path of agape love is something we all experience when we are born to this world.
But what happened after we grew up? Agape love is not so pure anymore. Every love seems to have a string attached to it.
Let's move on to agape love in our lives.
