Enflasyonun nedeni değil sonucudur. Ben bugün borç verdiğim 100 tl ile 100 ekmek alabiliyorken 1 yıl sonra 100 tl yi geri aldığımda 90 ekmek alabiliyorsam bu durumda faiz kaçınılmaz bir sonuç olur. Kullanım değeri karşılığında kiraya verdiğiniz ev, arsa, araba gibi para da finansal bir enstrüman olarak zaman değerine sahiptir ve parayı kullandırdığınız kişinin bu kaybettiğiniz zamanı telafi etmesi gerekir. Günümüz ekonomik sistemindeki faizi 1500 sene öncekiyle aynı şey zannedip faizi doğuran nedenleri irdelemeden düz mantıkla faizi bitirmeye kalkmak, 0 maliyetle borçlanma gibi fantaziler daha fazla faiz olarak geri döner.
