It is now the season in the United States for selecting health insurance. The Obamacare law dictates that it is necessary to have health insurance else there is a very expensive fine for those who do not. This requires that everyone either receive health insurance from their employer or if self employed buy it. The question for the Steemit bloggers here is what health insurance plan did you choose or what health insurance plan will you be choosing? Have you evaluated your options? As a self employed individual how do you feel about the healthcare premium deductions?

Of course this question only applies to Steemit bloggers who:

  • Do not get their parents health insurance
  • Do not get health insurance from an employer or company
  • Do not get health insurance which they don't purchase and choose themselves

I would like to know this also. I am currently using my husbands Cobra benefits but that will run out next year, plus the monthly cost is supposed to be over $1000 starting in July of next year. I cannot afford it.

Having lost the state-subsidized medical insurance that I'm eligible for due to the nightmarish bureaucracy in my state a couple of years ago, my healthcare budget these days goes to 1.) healthy food, 2.) low-cost dental insurance, and 3.) paying the fine.

I have been of the belief that as long one is reasonably healthy that only catastrophic coverage should be needed! The premiums have skyrocketed to a point where it doesn't even make sense to be insured. Many parts of the country, individuals are paying upwards of $30,000 before the health insurance will kick in!

Why can't the USA Govrnment just pay for everyones healthcare, spend a fuck load less on war weapons and give its citizens free healthcare like many other countries do. Australia, New Zealand, Canada, UK can we add to the list anyone. How TF are people expected to find $1000 a month for healthcare insurance....it's a big money grab by big pharma and insurance corporations. WTF is medicine so epensive in the USA.

Because the US citizens don't want to pay for bad habits of people who don't care about their health? Also because the culture in the US is more of a "you're on your own" and a "do it yourself" type culture. It's not like it is in Europe or Asia or Africa.

As far as $1000 a month, I don't see health insurance cost that much. Closer to $500 a month really and that is for the Gold metal premium coverage. $1000 a month is higher than I've ever seen anywhere but I would assume if you're older and sicker your premiums may be higher as it makes sense.

So at $1000 a month you are looking at $12,000 a year. In general Obamacare offers subsidies but there are a lot of onerous requirements associated with those subsidies which make it less than attractive but if a person requires it to live then that is the best option.
