World Cancer Day - February 4
The World Cancer Day is celebrated every 4th February, date favored by the World Health Organization (WHO), with the aim of reducing through informative, educational and awareness campaigns the number of avoidable deaths each year because of of this disease. This 2016 the motto that the United Nations Organization (UN) developed for its worldwide consolidation is "We can, I can."
Cancer is a process of uncontrolled growth and spread of cells that can affect any part of the body, this can manifest itself through "malignant tumors" or "neoplasms", which have the characteristic of being able to invade adjacent parts of the body, propagating from that way to other organs- this phenomenon is known as metastasis-, this being the main cause of death from this disease. In Venezuela, cancer is the second cause of death after cardiovascular diseases, which is why the Bolivarian Government through the Ministry of People's Power for Health (MPPS) has worked on the development and implementation of public policies for its prevention diagnosis and attention.
Also, "the last World Cancer Report of the World Health Organization (WHO) reports that in 2012 there were 8.2 million new cases and estimated that this figure will rise to 22 million annually in the next two decades." That is why prevention and early detection are the fundamental basis for effective control of this disease.
The National Institute of Statistics (INE), joins the celebration of the World Day against Cancer, highlighting the great effort made daily by cancer patients in our country, especially those belonging to the INEísta family. All are a source of inspiration and improvement for their poise, determination and perseverance.
