UNHEALTHY CONFESSIONS - You Won't Believe It - Appearances Can Be Sooooo Deceptive...!

in #health6 years ago

Long forgotten in Steemit history is the fact that my first recipe post contained SUGAR, and plenty of it!

Yep, you heard correctly.  This natural health mama is a confessed and reformed ex-sugar-junkie!!!

Hard to believe, since those who know me will testify to my extreme disapproval of this ingredient in all foods and recipes.  That's why I'm not sharing the link... with a name like 'Honey Caramel Chocolate Chunk Cheesecake'  I'm pretty sure that spells out how unhealthy it is and I don't want anyone else making it!  Instead you can create a dessert that's equally delicious but totally healthy.  I was a sugar addict just like so many people are, and would happily devour half of this 9" cheesecake in one evening... crikey.

A few years ago this was my typical daily diet:

breakfast: 2-sugars-black-coffee

lunch: one 'Twix' chocolate bar

dinner: store-bought ready-made quiche/pizza/burgers/sausages/pasties etc

supper:  three chocolate bars & 'Fruit Corner' yoghurt

But look - my body did not betray my diet!  I wasn't obese, or spotty, and I never had a cavity or a filling.  Who would have ever guessed?

But I did have IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) which I caused, and later cured, through what I put into my body!

A picture of health???  Not at all!

Here's me scarfing down a processed beef burger from a cheap food truck.  A tasty treat of questionable-quality beef (or something pretending to be beef), gassy fillers and MSG sandwiched in a sugary bap.  Yum...?

I no longer eat meat by the way!  or anything processed, refined, artificial.

I was a smoker from age 15 to 29 (I'm nearly 33 now).  Roll ups with licorice papers.  Loved it, and honestly I miss it all the time.

I've had a hard think, counted up, and now tell you I used no less than 19 commercial beauty products every morning just to 'get ready'.  I had a thing about perfect hair, perfect make-up, and everything staying in place all day!  No joke it took me 45 minutes just to straighten my hair.  Ridiculous.

Now I use zero beauty products, have grown my hair long, use vinegar rinse to clean it, and wear it plaited mostly.  No straightening!!!

Not good news for the blokes, but for women getting pregnant is an excellent way to stop smoking!  Not only do you want to for the health of baby, but I found (and many women agree with me here) that the taste made me sick, and I couldn't tolerate the smell at all.  It's like your body's way of protecting baby... amazing!

I also enthusiastically recommend Alan Carr's Easy Way To Stop Smoking.  All you do is read it, and you can smoke whilst you read, and I can't explain how it works but it's like 'de-brainwashing' or something!  He's a normal person speaking plain language, simply talking us through the truths about smoking.  Not scaring with facts about poisons and harm to our bodies, but the actual habit and addiction.  It's really remarkable, but by the end I tell you in all sincerity I turned to my husband with happy tears on my cheeks, because finally and for the first time I knew I didn't need to smoke anymore.  It was a strange and glorious truth.

Appreciated. I also like sweets, sugar don't smoke, don't drink and still happy.

I'm happy to hear that @waqasnisar! :-)

Wow. You have totally transformed your life around. I applause you.
I was the same way before too, except I was never a smoker, but I would use all these toxic products on my body/hair etc, but for the last two years it all changed when I was introduced to doTERRA essential oils.
I have also made huge changes in our eating habits, but still need to change more since I love, love my cheesecakes. lol.

Congratulations on your health success, since I truly believe it is a success especially quitting smoking for your baby, which I applaud you for, since so many women will not quit smoking while they are pregnant, and I have seen a lot of it, and it drives me insane.

I know, there's something 'wrong' in the appearance of a pregnant lady puffing on a cigarette! But I absolutely know firsthand how addictive smoking is and how difficult to give up... even for a baby. But it's hard to have sympathy and not to judge. But on the other hand, I know pregnant women who would happily eat fast food every day, and in my mind that's just as harmful to a baby in the womb as smoking!

It's so interesting finding out all the ways in which us 'healthy people' have been transformed from our old choices and habits, and what lead us on our journeys!

p.s. my fav dessert too is cheesecake, but now I make a healthy version and it's actually nicer than the way I used to make it, so I'm still happy! :-)

What a journey! Great story. I love hearing how different people became health nuts. Well done!!!

Thanks so much @buckaroo! :-)

Way to go! You should be proud of yourself! That IBS is horrible...I have suffered with it. Cutting sugar and stress out of your life HUGE. And the baby.....he is a wonderful result.. Great post!

Thank you @birdsinparadise! I do look back and feel I've accomplished something way more important than qualifications or riches, because without good health what do we have? Children are a good motivating factor for getting healthy, and I'm super careful with his diet too... he's still never eaten anything containing sugar!
