Why pregnant women should NEVER drink from plastic bottles: They contain hormone-disrupting toxins that could make your baby obese

in #health7 years ago (edited)

Pregnant women who drink from plastic bottles are more likely to have obese children, a new study claims.

Scientists have found that the chemical bisphenol A (BPA), a hormone disruptor, is linked to an unborn child's increased risk of obesity.

When the child is exposed to BPA, they become less sensitive to a hormone responsible for controlling appetite.

I saw this article and immediately thought, what about the damage BPA does to the Mother and everyone else? I'll talk more about that at the end of my post. Lets look at what this new study found.

This study was conducted by the Endocrine Society based in Washington DC. They looked at baby mice where the mother was exposed to BPA and found the babies were less responsive to the hormone leptin. Leptin help reduce appetite when the body does not need energy.

Senior author Dr Alfonso Abizaid had this to say about the study.

'Low level prenatal exposure to BPA delays a surge of leptin after birth that allows mice to develop the proper response to the hormone. BPA exposure permanently alters the neurobiology in the affected mice, making them prone to obesity as adults.'

This is key to my theory on why this chemical is in so many foods and drinks

'This study improves our understanding of how BPA can disrupt the endocrine system in a manner that raises the risk of obesity in animals,' Dr Abizaid said.

'Since BPA has also been linked to obesity in humans, people need to be aware that environmental factors can lead to increased susceptibility to obesity and cardio-metabolic disorders.'

A study back in October 2016 claimed that plastic bottles contain hormone disrupting chemicals that cause cancer, diabetes, ADHD and autism. The Study estimates these chemicals cost the US $340 Billion in health related cost per year.

So why is this in our food?

I think BPA triggers food addiction by blocking hormone signals to the brain. This study clearly points to that and getting people addicted to things always has been good business for the elite. I believe the chemical companies knew this and sold it to food manufactures as a simple way to get people to eat more food. BPA is even in food wrappers for fast food burgers and sandwiches. Hungry people equal more profits for the fast food industry. It also benefits big pharam and the medical industry and that's probably why the health industry has been silent on this chemical.

Please, bring on the class action lawsuits against these chemical companies. BPA should be labeled a chemical weapon and banned world wide.

Thanks for the information

I like how your reasoning why it is in our food.

The implications: even if they are BPA free now, we really have to assume something else is going to happen. Give these corporations some credit already! They really know what they are doing. There are a lot of coincidences, probably more coincidences than jail cells. One of these things are going to have to change.

To be fair: Best case this is an honest mistake. Of course this is a big deal. How important is it though? So let me see: I'll ask myself what do I want more of: honest mistakes or fixing mistakes? Of course, fixing them! This is a contributor to death. Also, did people know they were at risk? The move to water instead of soda sounds like a health one right? Don't forget these things, don't make excuses, just start fixing it.

I look forward to more posts like this .. Every incident proves our attention is needed.

Before we can fix it we need to admit/convince people it's a problem.

I have a feeling NONE of us should be using water bottles.

That is an interesting thought as to why it's in our food...would make a lot of sense. BPA was originally used as an estrogen replacement for women back in the 40s or 50s. I don't remember at this point why they stopped using it for that exactly but I would imagine it probably led to cases of cancer considering that's what extra estrogen has a tendency to do. Great article, thanks for sharing!!

Thanks for reading.

Wikipedia says it was used back in the 1930's as an estrogen mimicker and was replaced by another chemical that was more effective and that chemical got banned because it caused cancer.

Things really haven't changed much in terms of safety since then lol.
