That is an interesting thought as to why it's in our food...would make a lot of sense. BPA was originally used as an estrogen replacement for women back in the 40s or 50s. I don't remember at this point why they stopped using it for that exactly but I would imagine it probably led to cases of cancer considering that's what extra estrogen has a tendency to do. Wikipedia says it was used back in the 1930's as an estrogen mimicker and was replaced by another chemical that was more effective and that chemical got banned because it caused cancer.
Things really haven't changed much in terms of safety since then lol.
