Keto Diet - Low Carbs & High (Good) Fats

in #health7 years ago

I want to make a quick post about a diet my doctor recently recommended for me, as a man with high cholesterol and stress.
The argument for doing a ketone diet is basically similar to the argument for a paleo diet. Agriculture, as well as grains and most carbohydrates we take for granted today, have only been part of the human diet for about 15 thousand years. Before that, and for most of our evolutionary history, people ate wild fruits and vegetables and the animals that they hunted. Carbohydrates are great, but as the argument goes, the body is not well adapted to process large amounts of complex sugar that are present in the typical diet today.
When blood sugar is in a low enough amount, ketones are used as the energy supply for the body. Ketones are produced in large amounts from fat in the liver when carbohydrates are scarce. This helps the body burn fat more efficiently and regulate insulin levels. This also occurs when somebody fasts, and a person begins to burn the fat stores in the body as energy. The better way is to keep carbs low and natural fats high to achieve the same result.

Foods that are very high in carbs includes candy, breads, pasta, and rice. These should be kept at a minimum for the best results. This diet should help increase energy, reduce tiredness, and improve focus, among many other health benefits.

Nice article, Ketosis and the links to high blood sugar and eventually Type 2 Diabetes can be difficult to explain, but this is, dare I say, easy to digest.
