Hey Steemers! Today I am going to discuss about that role of "exercise timing" in our fitness regime. In today's busy world we are working from morning till evening and there is always the scarcity of time. So in Metro cities people often goes to gym in the evening hours after their office. Accordingly fitness market has adopted itself. There are various gyms in the market who are working 24 x 7 to attract the people having dearth of time to exercise in morning. But exercising in evening or night time proves to be as fruitful as morning exercise?

The answer is NO! Let’s understand why?

Why we people heard from childhood to exercise in the morning from our parents and grandparents? What's the reason behind that? Does it affect our workout or its result?

These are some of the questions I always think about. The idea behind that is a very straight forward and a real scientific reason. Are you guys aware of the term Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). Basal metabolic rate is defined as the process of all the metabolic activities (like chemical reactions in the body) inside our body. Actually basal metabolic rate decides whether the individual is fit or not. If someone having low metabolic rate then he will not be considered as a fit person and he must be having some extra weight. If someone is having high metabolic rate then the person will be considered as fit because metabolic rate will not allow the fat to sustain in the body.

Slow metabolic rate indicates that the chemical processes occurring in our body like digestion of food are really slow. Due to this slow metabolic rate body is not able to digest whole food and it results in deposition of fat from the undigested food in body. Our digestion process too gets slow by time. On the contrary if the person is having high metabolic rate then there will be quick and complete absorption of food with very small amount of undigested fat left in the body.

So now we know about the BMR now you guys must be thinking about the ways to increase or maintain high BMR. BMR is directly proportional to our heartbeats. As the heart pumps more BMR will be increased. In other words as we do more exercise more the BMR will get increased. That’s why the person with sedentary lifestyle start getting more and more obese because of lack of exercises that ultimately results in low BMR. How you can calculate your BMR?

BMR = 66 + (13.75 x weight in kg) + (5 x height in cm) – (6.8 x age in yrs)

Now we know what is BMR and how to increase our BMR. It's time to think that how can we maintain high BMR all the time and can achieve maximum from it? "That is where the role of time of exercise comes into play"! Our elders always said to go and exercise in the morning. The reason behind that was to keep your BMR up all the time. If we do exercise in the morning, BMR will remain high for whole day till the time we go to long sleep in the night. It helps our body to maintain BMR throughout the day and continuously assist us to remain fit and actively processing all the chemical reactions inside the body. On the other side people who are doing workouts in the evening will get the high BMR for very small number for hours, until they go to bed at night. Because when we go to sleep all the body reactions become slow as our body is resting, resulting in slowing down of BMR.

Hence it is very necessary to do workout in the morning time to fetch the maximum out of your body and get the maximum benefit of the BMR. You can further enhance the results by following proper diet. It is also very crucial to follow balanced diet as the low volume of diet will be easy to get digested with the help of BMR. Whereas heavy diet will take more efforts and more time to get digested and there always remains high chances of undigested food remain in the body.

However, I would say to do something is better than nothing. If still you are unable to find time for exercise in morning than do it evening but priority and concepts shall remain clear!

I hope my post help you understanding the role of exercise timings in our fitness goals. Please let me know your views too about this topic. Please also suggest how can we can improve this topic by adding further points!
