Healthy Sundays: Super Smoothie Bowl
I don't know what is it with me and smoothies, it's just, I am obsessed with them. You can sneak so much stuff in there, stuff you would never ever think of eating. We live in the time of 'weird tasting but amazing and all kinds of supplements'. Ordinarily you would hate the taste and would not be too tempted to eat it, same goes with the green leafy vegetables. Smoothies are the answer to all these issues.
"The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison."
-Ann Wigmore
It really does not get any more real than this! Disclaimer: Do not scared or discouraged by the green color, it tastes absolutely amazing!
Ingredients:
- A big cup of baby spinach
- One frozen banana
- Two frozen strawberries
- Cinnamon powder
- Yogurt
- Water
- Honey (Optional)
- Flax seeds
- Almonds (or any other nut of your choice, better yet a mixture of nuts)
Recipe:
In a blender or smoothie maker add the baby spinach, the frozen fruits, cinnamon powder, two tablespoons of yogurt, a teaspoon of honey (to give a natural sweet taste), and just a little water (say 50 ml) and then blend the whole mixture. Use of frozen fruits will make the smoothie thick and give it an ice-cream like texture so you can eat it from a bowl. Transfer this smoothie to a bowl and garnish it with a topping of your choice. I went with almonds and flax seeds because of their extensive health benefits and well also I did not have any other nuts at home :-)
Flax seeds are high in fiber, omega-3 fatty acids and have amazing anti-inflammatory properties. It improves skin and hair health and lowers cholesterol etc. Almonds prevent heart diseases, support a healthy brain function, help control blood sugar levels and prevent diabetes, assists with weight loss, increases nutrient absorption and promotes digestive health. Honestly it's benefits are endless! This why, I call this a super smoothie bowl, it is filled with just tons and tons of goodness.
Would you make this at home? Let me know!
