What should we be eating?

in #health6 years ago (edited)

So in this world of invasive media, fast food cities and the relentless bombardment with food product advertising, it can be so easy to just close our eyes and open our mouths and eat whatever comes our way. In a poor attempt to combat the scourge of modern illnesses, we then resort to eating what we're told to eat by our doctors and dietitians and we end up even fatter and sicker than we were before we went to them for help! Their answer, more pills, more dieting, more exercising and less and less natural nutrition. Even our fruits and vegetables are no longer healthy due to over farming, long periods in storage and countless methods of chemical preservation, our apples are not fresh, they are now positively ancient super shiny toxic balls of sugar, and will certainly not keep the doctors away anymore, in fact they will have them breaking down your door!

The food which we now take for granted as the norm, and which is repeatedly touted as healthy by the medical establishment, i.e. the mass produced breads, grains, including cereals and pasta, the sorry excuses for plants, and our sugar loaded milk, are only a relatively recent introductions to our human diet. The food of 60 years ago has been demonised. Butter, cream, lard, animal fats, nuts, shell fish, food in its natural form, have been fictitiously labelled as the cause of heart disease and strokes, when in fact the real culprit is carbohydrate, aka sugar! Carbohydrate in the blood causes the body damage in the form of inflammation in the walls of the blood vessels, and it is this inflammation aka plaque that causes the strokes and heart attacks. In order to digest carbohydrate, the body requires extra water which it stores in our fat cells, contributing to our weight-gain, resulting in more illness and more depression. Carbohydrate causes intense highs and lows in the form of sugar cravings and intense hunger, which return after a very short period of time after eating, our sugar levels drop, so we eat, again and again trying to relieve this insatiable hunger, and pain. The cycle continues, more and more pain, fatter and fatter, sicker and sicker...

But wait - if it is so bad, then why is it so heavily pursued as the way to feed us all? Money!! Carbohydrate is quick, and therefore cheap to produce. The farmers get paid less and less for more and more, and the manufacturing bosses charge us more and more for food that is less and less healthy. Low fat means it is chemically loaded. They do this in order to trick the body to thinking it is gaining nutrients when in fact there is very little nutritional content in there, none of which is in its natural form, and therefore will be of little use to the body, resulting in more of the above. Don't get me started on how perpetually sick and miserable people make the pharmacology world go round!!

Ancel Keys, the Kellogg sponsored scientist who fore-fronted the modern reliance on carbohydrates and his cherry picked 7 countries study have a lot to answer for, he followed the money, as many great minds have done before him, and many scientists will do in the future. The Netflix Documentary - The Magic Pill opened my eyes and the door to a new way of eating and hopefully living for both me and my family.

Eating natural fat, does not make you fat, it makes you stronger and smarter; Eating carbohydrate makes you fat, weaker, and less focused! (I'll do another post on The Ketogenic Diet for Autism and ADHD another time!)

I am no stranger to dieting, I have been both heavier, and lighter than I am now. Both have been difficult, the latter somewhat fleeting. The difference with following the way of eating laid out in The Magic Pill, has been breaking my addiction to food. I no longer live from meal to meal or snack to meal to snack to meal, as is the case for so many. Also the debilitating pain I felt in my body for most of my life has almost completely gone. I wish I'd found this lifestyle before spending a fortune on sports therapists, etc. Now the pain only raises its ugly head when I return to carbohydrates for more than just one special occasion! Proving to me that it is solely diet related! When I was sticking religiously to the diet, for the 1st month, I dropped 10Kgs! Without exercising! Having been cheating of late I have regained 4Kg. Still down 6Kgs despite my best efforts to self sabotage! Perhaps writing this blog will spur me on to redouble my efforts! Maybe, a few of you would like to give it a try along with me? I also have more energy on the diet and as my efforts continue, you may start to see an increase in my online activity as well as in my physical activity!

"I don't have time to watch the video, so just give me a brief rundown of what I need to eat and what I need to give up!" I hear you cry!

Eat for Breakfast:

  • Eggs of all kinds
  • Good Quality Ham
  • Bacon with all the fat on it!
  • Broccoli, Kale, Asparagus, Avocado or other leafy green
  • Cheeses of all kinds
  • Coconut Oil, Butter, Lard, Heavy Cream
  • Coffee or tea with butter or coconut oil, or Heavy Cream

Eat for Lunch:

  • Chicken, Tuna, Natural Meats
  • Green Veggies as above
  • Nuts
  • Cheeses
  • A little peanut butter - Organic and natural

Eat for Dinner:

  • Meats
  • Fish
  • Celeriac = potato
  • Cauliflower = rice
  • zucchini = pasta
  • Little Sweet Potato/Pumpkin if you must.
  • Little bit of carrots
  • Little bit of Mayo
  • Little bit of Almond Milk

Snacks:

  • Nuts
  • Cheese
  • 90% Cocoa Chocolate
  • Protein Balls

Special Cooking Ingredients:

  • Almond Flour
  • Coconut Flakes
  • Grass Fed Butter
  • Coconut Oil
  • Heavy Cream
  • MCT Oils - Haven't bought any, other than coconut oil yet, but heard they can be useful in boosting fat intake.
  • Honey minimal use only
  • Coconut yogurt
  • Olive Oil for dressings only, cooking with it makes it carcinogenic!

I try to go as organic and as natural as possible, although the offerings at the supermarket are considerably lower in this area than they used to be! Grass Fed animal products are the best, the flavour speaks for itself, don't believe me, try regular butter versus grass fed butter!!

Gone are milk, bread, cereals, pasta, rice, potatoes, sugar, cakes, jams , sweets/candy and fruits...
Wait fruits? Yes, fruit is essentially sugar, so in order to get the body to burn fat as fuel instead of sugar, including fruit, it has to be kept to a minimum, 5% per day, which equates to about 5 raspberries!

Survival Tips,
You can try to make bread out of almond flour (Must be kept air tight in freezer after opening), but its expensive and the results are not very successful. Coconut flour is dry, so you need to add lots of eggs, too!
Protein Balls help deal with sugar cravings there are many good recipes, two at a time, not 10!!
Search out restaurants with Low Carb Options!
Don't leave the house or turn on the TV, or Facebook, for the first month and have the Uber Eats number blocked on your phone!!
Salt, Magnesium and Potassium help with mineral replacement, of those flushed out with the release of all that excess fat water. I also took digestive enzymes as my gallbladder is no more!
I do 3 night of Hello Fresh Delivery, With the Gluten Free Option, and swap out the starches for Celeriac and Cauliflower, because I am very lazy!! My kids are still eating carbohydrates although we have ditched the sugary cereals, and milk, and I try to make my own bread and jam. They are eating more organic and natural based foods along with us.

Stock up on toilet paper for the first week as the changes can be fast and unexpected! Energy levels will also dip for a few days and there may also be headaches, salted warm water helps with those. We also did intermittent fasting in the beginning, as we weren't hungry enough to eat breakfast in the mornings, in the beginning.

We don't miss bread or the sugar filled cereal at all, and feel very liberated when we watch other people ferociously stuff down their next load of carb-board nutrient free false food! My skin, teeth, eyes and hair are all better than they were, my sleep and energy is better, my weight is better, and I can move in ways I haven't been able to do for over a decade...
Please don't listen to the mainstream and at least give this diet a second look. It may just change your life or the life of a loved one.

In my next post I will delve deep into the world of ever increasing cases of Autism; My youngest daughter was headed steaming down the tracks towards a diagnosis, but through the discovery of the above, and the other discoveries that followed, she may very well have jumped right off the tracks and be headed to a much happier and healthier destination! All will be revealed in the next exciting episode, of Suisho25's fascinating insights into the world we live in!
