Natural deodorant

in #health8 years ago (edited)

I just want to share one of the perks of owning a rock shop and collecting rocks. About a year ago an elderly Mexican women came into my store with her daughter. She did not speak English, but managed to ask "Crystals?" I directed her to the two crystal cases we have. After a few minutes she asked "Alumbre?" I don't speak Spanish and wasn't sure what she was asking for. I asked her daughter for a translation, but she wasn't much better at English. She did manage to communicate that her mother was looking for "Alumbre" crystals, but she didn't know what an English translation for Alumbre would be. I immediately went on line to see if I could find out. It turned out she was looking for Alumn crystals. I did not have any, but told her I could order some.

Out of curiosity, I asked why she wanted that particular crystal. After a short conversation with her mother, she said"Deodorant". With that I ordered a batch and received it a few days later, to which she came back and purchased the largest piece.

I'm not a fan of applying chemicals on or in my body. deodorants and antiperspirants included. But we need those things (some of us more than others :-0). It has been my experience that neither works for a full day, and in the evening I would start to notice my body odor. So I thought I would try the Alumn, since I had some from the order. I was amazed at how well it works. Not only does it last all day, but if needed it will last several days, although I don't recommend going that long. Any way, it's simple to apply. Just wet the crystal and lightly rub in on your under arms or any area you wish to treat. I've been using it now for about six months and I am very happy with the results. I'm not one to use cologne so that is an added plus. Try it out and let me know what you think.

Thank you @roswellrockman I am so excited to try this. I have never heard of this crystal and I am the Crystal lady....lol I run Crystal Vibrations - Creations by Sunscape and carry many stones and crystals. I am definitely looking into this one, especially for myself. I too hate using man-made chemicals on my body. Awesome of you to share this with us. ;-)

Thank you for your input. Please up vote my post and follow me. I am following you.

I was so excited about the post I forgot to vote for it. lol I do follow you as well, thanks again.

This is very interesting. Since you work with these stones, can you think of a reason why this would have an effect on odors? Does it kill any smell or just faulty ones? Would love to hear more about this, thanks for sharing!

It stops the bacteria that causes odour form growing.

I'm not an old lady, and I've never been to Mexico, but I've been using crystal rock deodorant for more than 25 years.

I started using it in school, and I remember it took a week or two to work properly (all teenage boys smell right?) but since then it's all I've needed.

It's cheap too, until you drop it on the tiles and smash it into tiny pieces... then you just collect all the larger chunks to keep using!

I'm still researching this. I do know that body odor is caused by bacteria which consumes our sweat. The alumn may kill the bacteria or be a deodorizer. Still checking.

I've been doing some research too and apparently it prevents the bacteria from attaching to the skin, I guess it could create a barrier, but being a crystal I have trouble seeing how it would transfer anything to the skin.

Alumn is water soluble. That's why you wet it before applying :-)

Holy cow I'm going to try this as well! My doctor says not to put ANYTHING on your skin that you wouldn't put on your tongue, because he guarantees it will be in your brain in 4 seconds. That includes lotions and deodorants. I want to try some, if you have any for sale today. On my way if so.

Funny you should say about putting it on your tongue. It tastes sweet.

Hi! love your blog!upvoted and subsribed! :)

In case anyone was wondering

Yours looks like Potassium Alum (Aka Potassium Aluminum Sulfate KAl(SO4)2 to me.

I remember my grandfather making his own aftershave with alum ("aluin" in Dutch) as one of the ingredients.
Followed, I like rocks and minerals 8-).

Thank you for your support. I will have to check into using alum with after shave. I don't usually use after shave because of the strong aroma. I'm all natural. :-D
