In the simplest way...what you should now about you larynx...#1
larynx
larynx Is located at the front of the neck, linked between the lower section of the pharynx and Trachea, about 5 cm long in the man, whereas in women it is less long and less prominent (Which affects the change of sound melody)
Extends from the third to the sixth cervical vertebrae. Composed of a number of cartilage located at the front of the neck below the lobe bone level.
Importance:
- sound organ in the human body
- it acts as a safety valve protects the airways when swallowing.
- It closes the throat opening when swallowing, to prevent food from entering the respiratory tract.
larynx consists of six forms of cartilage classified into:
- Thyroid Cartilage
- Cricoid Cartilage
- Epiglottis
- Arytenoid Cartilage
- The Corniculate Cartilage
- The cuneiform Cartilage
Articulations of Larynx
- Cricothyroid Articulation
- Cricoarytenoid Articulation
Ligament Of The Larynx:
Laryngeal cartilage is fixed by membranes called ligaments, which I will classify into "Extrinsic Ligaments" and "Intrinsic Ligaments" .
>>>Extrinsic Ligaments: contain- Cricotracheal Ligament
- Thyrohyoid Membrane
- Hyo-epiglottic Ligament
>>>Intrinsic Ligaments contain:
- Cricotracheal Ligament
- Thyrohyoid Membrane
- Hyo-epiglottic Ligament
- Cricothyroid Ligament
- Thyro-epiglottic Ligament
- Fibro-elastic Membrane Of Larynx
- Vocal Ligament
- Vestibular Ligament
Laryngeal Cavity:
- Laryngeal Vestibule: It extends from laryngeal inlet until the vestibular fold (or false vocal cord).
- Laryngeal Ventricle: From each side of the vestibular fold to the vocal fold
- Infraglottic Cavity (Space):It is located below the acoustic folds, the lower part of the larynx
