High coronavirus activity across the country.

Folks that were waiting for Novavax's updated vaccine, it is now available at pharmacies. CVS has appointments available for it as early as today.

It targets JN.1 which is the close ancestor of the dominant coronavirus variants. The mRNA vaccines target KP.2, a descendant of JN.1, and also a good match to circulating variants.

It isn't an mRNA based vaccine, but rather a protein sub-unit vaccine platform (the Hepatitis B and HPV vaccines are protein sub-unit vaccines). Protein sub-unit vaccines are an effective and safe platform. They contain coronavirus spike proteins, while the mRNA vaccines contain mRNA instructions for producing the spike proteins.

Everyone is eligible for the new vaccines and should get them. We have high coronavirus activity across the country.
