If you’re just joining my thyroid-healing journey, I have three other posts that you might want to read for some background information on dealing with a weak immune system and / or an unhealthy thyroid:

*Healing My Thyroid Post 1: The Diagnosis

*Healing My Thyroid Post 2: Discovering the Book Thyroid Healing by Anthony William

*Healing My Thyroid Part 3: Food to Avoid

It’s not mandatory to read these earlier posts, but they do give background information.

The path I’m taking to heal my thyroid naturally is based on Anthony William’s book Medical Medium Thyroid Healing by Anthony William (FYI: that link is my Amazon affiliate link).

The One Superfood to Eat for a Healthy Thyroid

Today, I’ll discuss the one superfood William’s says helps heal your thyroid or as he says, helps heal a weak immune system in general, which is the root of an unhealthy thyroid.

William says in his book, Thyroid Healing, that artichokes are “some of your best allies when healing from the thyroid virus. Their hearts contain nutrients to support and restore your thyroid gland itself -- notably, phytochemicals that communicate with the thyroid’s frequency delivery system.”

He goes on to say that artichokes provide help to the enzymes and amino acids in our body to help heal our immune system.

So, in addition to artichoke hearts, he says the leaves are “armor for your thyroid.” They contain alkaloid compounds that act as a shield against the thyroid virus.

Incorporating Artichokes into My Diet

I do love artichokes, but it’s not a vegetable that I normally eat on a regular basis. For one thing if you’ve ever cooked them, they’re a little different to prepare than other vegetables. They’re something you have to think about ahead of time because they take over half an hour to prepare.

And eating them is messy but also totally delicious!

So, since reading his book and learning the importance of adding artichokes in the diet to naturally repair the thyroid, I’ve eaten two artichokes. I fixed them together and ate one the first day then ate the other the next day.

I know I should probably eat them more often and not necessarily two days in a row. Like the rest of the methods I’m trying, it’s totally different from what I’m used to doing but am plugging along!

The Best Way to Eat Artichokes

William states in his book to eat fresh artichokes if possible. The regular method of steaming artichokes is how he recommends preparing them.

If you choose to buy canned, bottled, or frozen artichoke hearts, check the label to see if they contain citric acid. If they do contain this preservative, he recommends soaking them overnight to get rid of the citric acid before you eat them.

In the next post I’ll talk about more healthy foods to eat and/or drinks to heal your thyroid naturally.
