Liver Health - A Safe, Effective Do-It-Yourself Liver Flush Drink

Safe and Effective?

Liver flushes have become a part of 'detox culture' along with colon cleanses and fasting.

But are they effective? Safe?

There are two ingredients for a liver flush that have scientifically demonstrated effectiveness for helping to heal the liver. They are milk thistle and turmeric:

"Milk thistle has been shown to decrease liver inflammation, and turmeric extract has been shown to protect against liver injury" - Source Hopkins Medicine

A Simple Home Liver Flush Recipe

This is the recipe I use:

  • The juice of one citrus fruit, i.e. lemon, lime, orange grapefruit etc.
  • Clove of garlic
  • A few peppercorns - black pepper enhances the effect of turmeric.
  • Pinch of turmeric
  • Contents of one milk thistle capsule
  • 1 table spoon of cold-pressed olive or coconut oil
  • Clean water as required

Mix ingredients in a blender, drink. Adjust the recipe to suit your own taste.

It is not necessary to drink everyday, a few times a week suffices. Aid your liver by limiting alcohol intake and eating healthy whole foods. Keeping your weight normal also helps the liver. Excess weight strains the liver. Source

This is great! I will try this out ... I've done the gallbladder liver flush which can be a little too intense so this one is perfect especially for me while I'm travelling!
