KETO Diet
Because I have seen great results from others who tried this diet. I have decided it is time to take the plunge and lose some weight.
When I was a teenager I never liked to eat... thought it was a waste of time and didn't have an appetite. I was 5'10" tall and weighed 115lbs when I graduated high school. My metabolism was fast; I am also half Chinese and half White (aka HAPA).
Started working out after High School and my biggest hurdle was breaking my metabolism in order to gain weight. When I started working out... it built my appetite up. But I actually had to eat an entire box of Ice Cream cones every night in order to gain weight. I would never recommend this... but it did work. I shot up to 180lbs in one year. It wasn't fat... it was muscle because I was working out and replacing the fat with muscle.
Fast forward 18 years and now I have been experiencing the opposite effect as I get older. I cannot burn the fat away and I currently weight 200.6lbs which is the heaviest I have ever been.
I will be the first to admit my diet is terrible. I work long hours and more often than not - eat fast food because I am always on the go. I eat alot of carbs; rice, noodles and bread. I also drink a lot of beer and coffee with frothed milk. Used to have a sweet tooth but now that seems to have faded where I am repulsed by candy and desserts.
So as a Medic; I see the basic concept behind this diet. Basically starve yourself of sugars and carbohydrates so your body turns to fat burning for energy and releasing ketones into the blood stream.
I have made some adjustments; instead of mochas or flat whites; I am now trying bulletproof coffee. Taking grass fed butter and blending it into the coffee creates a creamer and thickens the consistency which is actually delicious. I cant live without coffee and this is the best alternative to sugary milk. The oils in the butter also make the caffeine plateau a lot longer which gives you a kick that lasts longer throughout the day.
So far... this is day 3. I weighed myself on the morning of day 3 so I do not know if its actually working so far. I have been eating roasted veggies, salads and homemade chicken soup without any noodles.
I can definitely feel it. My body is craving sugar... I still feel hungry even after I eat. I have headaches. Our diets have so much sugar and carbs that its almost similar to withdraws. I have read this lasts up to a better half of a week before you adjust.
I have removed all beer from the household; last beer a few nights ago and I chose a Sierra Nevada pale ale. I am going to miss beer but I wont miss the beer belly. I still have whiskey... and from what I read you can drink hard liquor in moderation. I don't expect I will drink much liquor but will fully concentrate on hydrating. I bought a Zero water filter and the outcome is delicious. I usually cant drink water unless its flavored but Zero water tastes better than all bottled water in my opinion and I only like Avion and Voss.
I will keep you updated on my progress...
