From Seed to Plate
Live food for you quickly
A while back I wrote about dead food in the supermarkets ( https://steemit.com/health/@kyusho/don-t-eat-dead-food ) and how as a plant ages, then ships, then sits in the grocer, how the nutrient value diminished. So basically it becomes more and more like filler instead of feeder.
Sprouts are an answer
By supplementing your meals with sprouts that are at the peak of your nutritional value, we can regain those lost nutrients. The grow to full potency in days, on the counter with nothing but water soak, then daily rinse.
Broccoli Sprouts Soaking
This only takes 8 - 10 hours and all you do (this is half a jar full) is make sure the water covers the seeds.
Lentil Sprouts Soaking
The time is slightly variable from seed to seed as is the days of growth... the Broccoli takes 6 - 8 days and the lentils 4 - 6 days.
Let them sit
Then you let them sit to drain (mesh tops on the jars) and grow (these are just in the kitchen, not even indirect sunlight)... which is actually fascinating to watch through the glass.
After One Day
Look at the image above and we can see just after one day the Lentils on the right have large sprouts, the Broccoli on the left smaller.
Three days in...
Only onemore day for the lentils, where we willtakethem right out and consume them.
Half portion
I only grew a half portion of the lentils as I do not want to store them and begin to loose the nutrition they have. So this batch is being taken right from the jar (still growing) and will be placed in our meal today.
Let's begin the meal
Hear we have the growing lentils, garlic, onion, water chestnuts, cashews... oh and a beer for the chef. I know the beer isn't healthy for the body, but dang it works for the soul.
First the Garlic
First I saute the garlic using "REAL" Olive Oil...from believe it or not Costco brands. There was an expose of the great Mafia scam in olive oil where they were cutting the oil with others to increase profits. It was exposed in many news outlets with Kirkland passing the grade of 100% real. There were others and in fact one of our Steemit friends @resilientd, gave a partial list of good and bad oils here: https://steemit.com/food/@resilientd/eating-fake-olive-oil
Next...
We throw in the onions, water chestnuts, almonds and ground turkey to mingle the flavors and simmer... man it smells really good.
Added Flavors
We opted for two flavorings only, Worcestershire Sauce and Soy Sauce.
Finally the sprouts
I added the entire container of Lentils (the broccoli would be lost in this dish), to the mix just as it finished cooking. We did this to add a new crunch, fresh un-flavored taste and not cook out too much of the nutrients.
Last Step... Eating
We used freshest Bib Lettuce we could find (bought that day...not grown unfortunately), to make lettuce wraps. We had them plain and a few with different sauces...my wife likes the sweet Plum Sauce, I prefer the hot Siracha.
That's only one example
Of infinite possibility to go from seed to plate.
