Please allow me to tell you three rules that I had to start living by in order to be successful in losing weight.

“If your not doing it for you, you will fail”

Many times I have tried to lose weight but I failed every time. Simply because I wasn’t doing it for myself. I was doing it for my significant other, doing it to fit in, doing it cause the media told me, doing it for my label, doing it cause I wanted to be accepted by the masses. Crazy thing is those things still weren’t motivation enough to keep up a certain healthy lifestyle. If anything it drove me to eat more unhealthy just to mask my emotions.

Losing weight and working out is more of a psychological challenge then a physical one (atleast for me). There are thousands of work out plans for different types of people with different types of needs so physically there is always a way. If your mind is not determined to be successful regardless of your meal plans and workout equipment in your living room you will fail. Many people including myself use excuses like:
If the gym was closer I would go everyday day.
If I had money for a trainer I would be in shape.
I was gonna go to the gym today but I worked all day.
If I had money for said diet company I would be set.
I’ll start on Monday.
I’ll start tomorrow.

See these excuses are psychological. You think you need something in order to start a healthy lifestyle. Well guess what you don’t. I’ll touch base on these further in another post.

Next piece of advice...

“Fuck Diets”

Yup you read that right . One of the biggest things that I hate when dieting is when you make a mistake and eat the wrong thing or indulge in something you shouldn’t. That guilty feeling comes over you and you eventually give up on that diet. I also hate the word diet because then everyone will have an opinion and if your like me you have a large amount of skinny friends who eat terrible all day but don’t gain no weight trying to show you how they stay fit. Now the thing that grinds my teeth the most about diets is the expensive food plans these companies come up with thier limited selections and starving positions. Let’s not forget a diet is temporary...... and I don’t know anybody who only temporarily wants to be healthy and fit. So with that being said.... fuck a diet it’s all about creating a healthier lifestyle.

When you change the word diet to lifestyle it takes the pressure off if you slip up. You don’t need to start over or stop all together. When you do a lifestyle change you can take it day by day until you find what works for you. Remember what works for someone else may not necessary give you the same results. We all have different body chemistry, genes, strengths and weaknesses. It’s okay if it’s takes you a minute to adjust to a more healthy lifestyle. Rome was not built in a day and Your weight gain wasn’t overnight either.

Last advice

“Stop telling everyone your weight loss goals”

This one is a little tricky. To best explain this advice to you I will give you 2 personal stories.

Every week I tell my boyfriend that I want to lose weight. That I hate how I eat and that I need to do better. I borderline cry to him. Him being the amazing sweet guy he is reassures me he loves me for me and if I want to lose weight he will support it. Problem is every week I make mistakes on my eating and every week I have to hear his remarks about how I cried about wanting to lose weight... this often leads to me sneak eating or not eating at all cause I don’t want him judging everything I put in my body.

Another example, my best friend is a fitness freak. She was born to be athletic.. Trains on a bike daily and teaches 3-5 classes a day. When I tell her I want to lose weight she gives me advice that I should work out more. I have gone to several sessions with her and each time I end up in the bathroom in tears. Although I know she is being supportive she expects me to be able to do atleast half of what she does. Sorry I can’t do an hour long advance cycle class; Not saying I won’t in the future but right now that’s just not for me. I can’t get into that funky yogo pose because it hurts not because I’m trying to be lazy. And no I can’t lift, pull, or push my body weight in any shape or form at this moment. This leads me to just saying fuck it and not ever wanting to go to the gym cause I feel like I’m just not good enough for it.

Oh and the worst part of telling people your goals. Is because when you don’t meet them that effects your self esteem. I’m not saying that you have to keep a secret but maybe for the first 30 days work on yourself before announcing to the world.

Great rules and great photo. Thanks for sharing.

My own simple rule - resist the urge to eat chocolates every single day. Now I just wish I can put that in practice

You can eat dark chocolate! Many people have told me that you can eat a handful of day and it’s good for you.

Excersice could help you to lose weight.

When you change the word diet to lifestyle it takes the pressure off if you slip up. You don’t need to start over or stop all together. When you do a lifestyle change you can take it day by day until you find what works for you.

This this this. Even when you're working something as disciplined as calories in/calories out, you can tweak what you eat in a given day to meet a target or make the time period longer to get more generalized once the daily feels pretty comfortable. But only you decide your goals and only you put in the hard work to achieve your goals, however private they are. You're showing up and investing in you, every day, because you're worth that effort. Congrats!!

Yes. Great advice. And things can improve gradually. A small change that is followed each day helps so much but it takes focus.
