Dandruff - Causes And Treatment

It is another time of the year here in Africa (dry season) were a common scalp condition known as dandruff is predominant. Dandruff is characterized by white, old, dead skin scalp that dots the hairs. Dandruff is not contagious and it can be treated by following simple hair treatment procedures.

One of the major cause of dandruff is keeping a dry scalp most especially during the dry season. When the hair doesn't get oiled enough and the scalp fails to generate its own oil, it results into dead dry skin known as dandruff. Other causes of dandruff are sensitivity to hair products, not washing the hair properly, not enough brushing and Malassezia a yeast-like a fungus.

Shampooing and brushing/combing of the hair properly and regularly is one of the ways to treat and prevent dandruff. Shampoos with menthol and antifungal property are advised towards the treatment of dandruff. Also, the hair should be welled oiled so as to prevent dry scalp.
