A Vegetarian Pill That Makes You Feel 10 Years Younger? TRU Niagen.

I Have Started Taking TRU Niagen

I recently wrote an article in which I highlighted 5 interesting companies that are being added to the Russell 2000 index.

One of those companies was ChromaDex, the creator of TRU Niagen. TRU Niagen is a new form of vitamin B13, called NR, that contains the building blocks for your body to make NAD (Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide).

NAD is something that your body has in high quantity when you are young, and it declines as you age. Studies have shown that low levels of NAD are linked to negative age-related conditions, such as increased soreness, weight gain, and a less sharp memory. Further studies are in progress.

Well, as I approach my 40's, I am feeling the effects of aging. I am not as spry as I once was. So this all intrigued me and after reading user reviews on Amazon, I took the plunge and ordered a 2-month test run.

From reading about this product, I found the positive and negative effects people have reported.

Pros:

  • Enhanced endurance
  • Weight loss
  • Increased overall energy
  • Better recovery from workouts
  • Increased Hair (+ darker color) & Nail growth
  • Decreased Blood pressure/heart rate
  • Increased Mental acuity
  • Better overall sleep/dreams
  • Younger looking skin

Cons:

  • Expensive ($75 for two months supply)
  • Some may experience vivid nightmares
  • Product gains could level off after repeated use

I Will Record Any Differences

TRU Niagen pill.jpg

I will take one pill in the morning and evening with a glass of water as the instructions state. I will not change my daily life, I will eat what I normally would and do what I normally do.

I want to see if the claims and reviews are true. I am curious. You might be as well.

I would like to lose some weight (I currently weigh 226.6 lbs) and feel less sore after exercising. Increased mental focus would be great as well.

Here is one review that I found to be very compelling:

I am a scientist and run a research laboratory at a major university. Part of my job is trying to stay on top of the scientific literature, which I do by monitoring the tables of contents for a number of scientific journals. A couple of years ago I came across a study published in Science (one of the top scientific journals on the planet) showing that giving aged mice a supplement called nicotinamide riboside improved mitochondrial and stem cell function and extended their life span (Zhang et al. Science 352,1436 [2016]). This caught my attention, because there are very few molecules that have been shown to extend the life span of mice in carefully controlled studies, particularly when first administered later in life. I googled the molecule, and lo and behold, found it for sale on Amazon under the brand name 'niagen'. I did a bit more research and found that niagen (a.k.a. nicotinamide riboside) is a molecule that your body produces naturally (and gets to a lesser extent from diet) but levels decline substantially with age. It is a precursor for another molecule called NAD+, which is an ancient molecule that has been conserved throughout evolution and is essential for energy production and DNA repair in all cells (two processes that are thought by many to be at the root of aging). More research revealed that niagen had been designated by the FDA as GRAS (generally regarded as safe), and a phase I clinical trial in humans had been completed revealing no adverse effects. Intrigued, I decided to try it.
I have been taking niagen daily now for ~2 years. I have substantially more energy than I did before -- I no longer hit a 'wall' at 3pm and require much less caffeine. I wake up feeling rested, and feel subjectively 'sharper' than I did before. I say this with some confidence, because I am pretty in tune with my mental performance. In addition, the aches and pains which had begun accumulating in my late 30s / early 40s have substantially receded. In particular, I suffered from chronic lower back pain since college and felt like I was on a one-way, gradual downward slope in that regard. While I cannot say that my lower back pain is cured, it is much less of an issue than it has been in years. I am also a weekend runner and have run ~5 miles every weekend for ~20 years. Before I started taking Niagen, my legs and back would ache for 24-48h after my run. Now, I am able to play basketball in the driveway with my son for an hour, run 5 miles, come back and play some more basketball, and I am essentially pain-free the next day.
Against the backdrop of my personal experience, I continue to monitor the scientific literature for new studies of nicotinamide riboside (i.e. niagen). From a basic science perspective, the evidence that this molecule acts in a systemic fashion to improve the health and function of multiple organ systems simultaneously is about as strong as it gets. You can see for yourself by searching for "nicotinamide riboside" in PubMed. As a result, there is a lot of excitement in the scientific community around NAD+ precursor supplementation. I decided to go with TRU Niagen since it comes directly from the company that manufactures the molecule and not from a supplement reseller.
There are a slew of other clinical trials underway, so there will soon be much more hard data about the clinical efficacy of niagen for treating a range of conditions. But based on the basic science studies so far, the clinical studies that already exist, my personal experience, and the experiences of many others I know, I believe that niagen is the real deal. I would not be surprised if this becomes the most popular supplement on the planet in a few years.

Well, let's see if I can see any difference in my life. If it really does what people say it does, I expect this product to have an extremely high demand once the word spreads.

In expectation of that, I have purchased shares of the company that makes this pill - ChromaDex.

How much would someone over the age of 50 or 60 pay to feel 10 or 15 years younger? How much would you?

Way more than $37/mo

That's what I think and why I am trying out this test run. If it does seem to work, it could be a gold mine!

This was a very interesting read for me. I’m generally interested in health products and supplements. And I also want to shed some extra weight and feel more energetic. So this was new and useful information for me. Thank you for sharing, Justin!

I got in touch with ChromaDex via email and asked if they could deliver to Sweden. They said they could, but they didn't guarantee it wouldn't get confiscated by the customs. And the shipment fee was $50, plus I would have to pay Swedish VAT on top of the product's price. So in the end it was just too uncertain and expensive to order from them directly.

I asked around in Swedish health stores, but none of them had Nicotinamide Riboside (aka NR, aka Niagen, aka NiaCel – depending on how different manufacturers chose to brand it) on shelves. But at least they confirmed that it exists in Sweden and is available to Swedish customers.

So in the end I compared prices offered by different online stores in Sweden and found one that was selling an analogous product for almost half the price compared to other web shops. I ordered a pack with 60 capsules, which should last for one month, taking it twice a day (it has the dosage of 125 mg NR per capsule, same as TruNiagen). I paid about $50 for it in total, including delivery. It should arrive within a week’s time and I'm eager to test it and see if I’ll feel any noticeable effects right away or if it’ll be more of a long-term positive health effect.

Once again, thank you for sharing tips for healthy living with your followers!

Wow, this seems to have really interested you for you to do so much looking around for them.

I have only been taking the pills for a few days, but my lower back pain is noticeably lower.

My NiaCel arrived today. The ingredients seem identical to TruNiagen (no wonder here, since Thorne Research licensed the formula from ChromaDex in the past). I’m eager to start testing the product, starting tonight. Will keep you posted about any observable effects. :))

[email protected] a little bit before starting the medication. Well, it has some benefit and pretty good for the society but much more care and research should be considered before starting the dose.

However, I believe the product is not yet final and may comprise some cancerous or body illnesses or malformation.

Please wait a little bit before starting. We only live once and this life worths prevention and care😁.

P.S: just my view🙂

I actually read some research on a doctor in Russia using Nicotinamide Riboside to treat benign tumors in his patients. It seems therefore highly unlikely to me that this compound may cause cancer.

There are a lot of people taking it right now, and the results all appear to be beneficial and certainly not harmful in any manner you describe.

Interesting, I'll have to check that out.

One supplement I've taken in the past that I believe substantially helped me in the rejuvenation department was bovine colostrum. I had experienced hair thinning with my first and only pregnancy, and my hair never thickened back up as everyone told me it would. I read that some men were taking bovine colostrum for hair regeneration, and that it also helped with a variety of issues related to the immune system, tissue regeneration, and other stuff because it promotes stem cell stimulation. I took one pill daily for six months and during the second month I started to notice little baby hairs growing along my hairline. My hair thickened (a lot) during the time I took the supplement, and it seemed to also have a positive effect on my energy levels, my ability to wake up in the morning feeling refreshed, and in the appearance of my skin.

Since I've stopped taking it (about three months now), I'm starting to notice that I have less energy than before, but so far my hair is still a lot thicker and my skin looks a lot younger.

I'm always interested in supplements and technologies purported to slow or reverse aging, even though I'm still kind of a spring chicken. I think that aging will one day be voluntary, for the most part, and that's exciting to me.

hmm, maybe taking a little regimen of pills like this will all work together for a huge benefit?

Im always sceptical of these products. Are their studies of the actual product and how much placebo effect is there in said studies?(not studies on the chemical)

Slide 8 in the March 2018 investor presentation has the results compared to a placebo pill

Ironically, after I read your post featuring this as one of the companies I got a Niagen ad in my facebook feed.....then again, I may have went and looked up the company's stock...damn FB is sneaky (scarey) good.

Look forward to hearing how it works out. I hit 40 three weeks ago and boy am I feeling the effects lol.

I know you are always playing basketball and stuff. I have been taking this since Thursday night and my lower back pain is defintely reduced!

Definitely keep us posted on your results. Maybe every week or two you can post an update?

I will, stick around for it.

I found an entire supply of new TruBrain supplements at a thrift store before. I think they're from the same company. You never know...

Are you exercising? That keeps you feeling spry as well by boosting your body chemicals, strength, endurance, metabolism, yadda yadda.

No, they only have Tru Niagen right now.

I am not someone who purposely exercises often, but I have been running a few laps each day for the past 6 weeks.

I went the C-60 route, with some good results. It too is expensive and the verification on longevity will need to wait for a bit to tell.

I hadn't heard of C-60 and had to look it up

i never like pills of any kind. I believe that there must be some negative side effects somewhere and it is just not worth the risk. I don't believe in magic pill. Just eat wisely and exercise regularly.

Certainly, those are must-dos!
