Background Information & Key Terms for Mercury Detoxing

in #health7 years ago

As mentioned in our last post regarding mercury, detoxing heavy metals from the body is serious business.

Each person is different, with different genetics, internal and external environments, and various states of health, so there is no simple answer to the question "How do you detox heavy metals?"

A quick Google search will return dozens of protocol results - many of them have similar information, but usually they have at least one significant difference to set them apart. Some only utilize compounds from nature, some use processed chemical elements, and others are a combination of natural and chemical components. It is important to remember that what works for one person not only might not work for another, but could even potentially be dangerous and detrimental to health!

**Caution**

While you can begin natural methods of detox such as diet, herbs, and exercise at any time, no "chemical" detox protocols recommend starting a regiment while you still have amalgam fillings (AKA metal fillings, also called "silver" fillings - these are actually 50% mercury!) in your mouth, as this can be very dangerous. Additionally, if you have had a root canal, it is probable there is mercury under the crown of that tooth as well. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE NO MERCURY DEPOSITS OF ANY KIND before beginning any chemical protocol, and seriously consider removing them even if you want to go a natural route.

That said, it is extremely important to do your own research!

While we are going to continue our series by reviewing tried and true detox methods from nature that have been used for decades, it is imperative that you continue to educate yourself as well as to tune into your own body. There is a LOT of information out there!!! We will cover the effective and successful natural options we have found after years of reviewing different protocols, but science continues to progress and new protocols are developed that include our expanded awareness of how the human body functions.

As you continue researching detox protocols, here are some Key Terms you may find helpful:

  • Chelator - any of various compounds that combine with metals to form chelates; can include some used medically in the treatment of metal poisoning.
  • Chelates - a compound having a ring structure that usually contains a metal ion held by coordinate bonds.
  • Bind - cohere or cause to cohere in a single mass.
  • Binder - a substance that acts cohesively.
  • Poisoning - occurs when any substance interferes with normal body functions after it is swallowed, inhaled, injected, or absorbed.
  • Detoxification - the process of removing toxic substances or qualities.
  • Diet - the kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats.
  • Methylmercury- An inorganic agent and contaminant of seafood products synthesized in sediments from mercury and mercury-containing chemicals dumped in waters supporting marine life. Methylmercury is concentrated in aquatic life forms and can thus be deposited in fish intended for human consumption. Probable cause of Minamata disease, a teratogenic condition characterized by multiple birth defects in Japan.
  • Half Life - when speaking of chemical compounds that make up a drug, it is the amount of time it takes before half of the active elements are either eliminated or broken down by the body.
  • Methyltetrahydrofolate Reductase - MTHFR (Gene Mutation) - There are specific genes that fit into this category that play a vital role in the methylation process your body has to help remove toxins. If some of these genes are not functioning properly, it makes it much harder to detox.

These are just a few issues to be aware of and key terms to understand before we begin a discussion of detoxing protocols. As we say, detoxing is a complicated topic, and it will be valuable to have a base understanding of some issues as well as a solid grasp of these concepts while you continue your research.

In our next post, we'll discuss some overall life supporting changes you can make NOW to aid in your detoxing journey!

Stay tuned!

We hope this will inspire you to do additional research and work towards the best possible health for yourself!

Team Steem is a blessing to us all!

Indeed!

Bless it be~*~

I'm glad that this subject is being explored further. This is a huge issue these days and many people are unaware of how detrimental amalgam fillings can be. Thanks for doing the legwork and bringing forth some very valuable information. It's time for better health!

Yes!! This is an extremely important topic. A huge percentage of the population is being poisoned and they don't even know it, but solutions are available. Health is wealth, and knowledge is power!

Indeed. Keep spreading the love!

Great info..... Also, Mercury has great features and is very useful.
The problem is that human does not know how to use it

Yes, humans obviously don't understand how to use it. This neurotoxin has no business being in our heads!

Every body is different! We can't stress enough that it's imperative to know what is going on with your specific body before you attempt a cleanse.

I (mildly) poisoned my sister and me before by trying a recipe for cilantro rice.
The person who gave me the recipe suggested I get some cilantro, mix it with a little water and blend it. That cilantro mixture gets mixed with the rice for flavor. Well, I used A LOT of backyard grown, organic delicious cilantro and made the most delicious rice EVER!

Hours later my sister and I had headaches. Google searches lead us to believe we had inadvertently given ourselves cilantro cleanses.

Cilantro it turns out cleanses metals from our system.

That makes sense. I used to eat a fair bit of cilantro for that reason but I actually kind of forgot about it until I saw your post.

yes, @metzli. Cilantro is actually a wonderful way to pull heavy metals from the deepest part of tissue in the body. It can become dangerous if you are not using something to bind to the metals it pulls out so they can be expelled from the body safely. That is something I'm sure will be address with natural detoxing in their upcoming posts!

Yes cilantro is an excellent herb for detoxing metals! Perhaps that is one reason some people are so averse to it if it makes them feel uncomfortable or unwell.
It is of utmost importance to tune into your body, as no one else can do it for you! One has to be empowered and responsible enough to make appropriate choices for their own wellbeing.

Yes, and the plain fact is that detoxing something bad out of your body does not feel good at all lol

I don't have any of the amalgam fillings but I do have root canals and I was not aware that there could be mercury under there.

Next time you have xrays at the dentist have them check. You can see the mercury on the xray. For many people this is just as dangerous because with the root of the tooth gone, and the filling compound touching your blood stream directly under the cap of the tooth you get an ever stronger amount of mercury in contact with your body.

An xray will show the metal of the crown, but will not specify what type of metal it is, nor will it be able to show what lies beneath the crown. Modern crowns are usually made of porcelain that contains aluminum compounds, which they say doesn't leech out - but modern dentistry also considers mercury a viable option for a filling, so take that with a grain of salt.

The porcelain is often bonded to another metal like gold or stainless steel. There are also solid gold or solid stainless steel crowns, and again it just shows up as a dark mass on an xray.

The crown has to be pried off in order to see what is underneath it. It is not uncommon for a crown to be improperly sealed and/or poorly fit, which allows more bacteria to get under it and potentially cause more decay - it's really gross to see a crown come off and a rotting tooth underneath it.

For a root canal, the pulp & nerve are drilled out of the tooth, then the roots are filled with a rubbery latex material called gutta percha - this has its own problems because it shrinks and then bacteria can get into the space and cause more infection. An alternative to gutta percha is the Sargenti method, which contains formaldehyde and once upon a time contained lead as well, which is obviously not ideal either.

The amalgam filling used in a root canal is stuffed in on top of the gutta percha or Sargenti paste, but doesn't extend into the roots or contact your blood stream directly. The crown is fitted over the top of the whole thing, often in a separate procedure from the root canal.

Because of the toxins used in root canal treatments and the fact that they can never really be sterile, we recommend extraction over poisoning yourself any day!

Thanks for the extended answer. I have heard about the bacteria in root canals leading to heart disease. At this point I am not sure what the best course of action is because the root canals were a long time ago. I am not sure if I had them removed if they would get all the filling material and bacteria out.

I wish I would have known more about this stuff but I was a teenager when I had both of my root canals performed.

The funny thing is that both of the root canals aren't really directly related to poor dental health. I have one in the front that was due to an elbow to the face playing basketball. I have one in a back molar that started out as a small cavity. At least that is what the dentist told me before he filled it. When I got home and the freezing wore off I was getting shooting pain in my tooth, it was probably the worst pain I have ever had. He had drilled too deep and hit the root or something. It became infected and I needed a root canal.

If I ever have any issues with them I will probably get them removed. I can't really afford it right now anyway. At this point they are fine other then probably poisoning me. :(

It is really surprising how much dental work is done when it is really not necessary. I'm starting to experimenting with healing my teeth just by changes in diet alone. I will probably start writing about it eventually after I have some conclusive (visible) results.

That's cool. My wife and I have both seen some improvements, her especially. We do a few things. Sonicare toothbrushes, remineralizing toothpaste, extra vitamin D and K2. We also eat a lot less carbs especially refined carbs.

That's wonderful!

I haven't been to a dentist in 10 years. I don't get cavities anymore. My two caps are from a long time ago but if I ever go to a dentist again I will ask them about it.

Many dentists are not up to date on the latest research about the toxins regularly used in standard dental procedures. We recommend that if you do see one, you look into biological, holistic, or environmental dentists, which are essentially interchangeable terms for dentists who recognize that teeth are part of the whole human body system and their care is important to overall health.

Yeah that is definitely what I will do.

This is so important!

Yes! So many people are being poisoned without realizing it, but solutions are available! Knowledge is power!

Yes may this knowledge spread far and wide!
