Reading up on nutrition value can be a pain in the ass. There, I said it. You know it, we all know it. Last year the FDA changed the rules on nutrition information labelling allowing for an easier understanding of what it is specifically you consume in one serving compared to the whole bag or box of food.

One of the biggest issues with food is the lack of knowledge when it comes to nutrition which makes sense because it's is a complex field. One get easily lost in the labyrinth of options, paradoxes, and opinions. On top of that, there are numerous of personal variables that come into play when you're on a mission to figure out which diet or lifestyle is best suited for you.

Luckily we are living the digital era! There are lots of tools to provide a more helpful and often playful insight into nutrition. On of them is the Sage Project. Dipped in bright colors and easy to understand infographics the Sage Project offers nutritional information the right way.

Sage Project

From my perspective, the Sage Project is a great step in the right direction. The only problem currently is that it seems to be catering an already healthy food selection mainly. This has to do with the brands that want to participate in this deconstructive nutrition web database. I'm confident that in the near future similar and more interactive, public driven projects will come to rise. Just add some Wikipedia with a touch of algorithm and perhaps a more decentralized construction, independent from the big food corporations. I make it sound like it's an easy thing to do which it is not. With this comes the responsibility of food brands and governments to provide people with the correct information of what it is they are eating.

As always I'm curious about your thoughts! What kind of app's or tools do you use to stay updated about food and nutrirtion?

Interesting my friend. But I don't really use any app's or tool for my food. I just throw all the food I find directly in my mouth. Yummyummy. ;)

Great post. (Everybody says that, right?)
Cheers from Switzerland.
