Webinar: John Mackey on plant-based diets
I received a message from Mary Ruwart telling me she’d have a health conference where John Mackey would be speaking and invited me to join them. That same weekend, my best friend and co-proprietor of The Free Thought Project, Jason Bassler, was going to be visiting me from Santa Cruz, California. As soon as he landed I told him about Mary’s message and he was just as excited as I was to go to Austin and witness this event.
We drove down and arrived at the hotel where we’d be spending the night, prepared our clothes for the next day and went to grab some brick oven pizza and a beer. The following morning, we got up early and went to the center where the conference would take place. We signed in, grabbed our name tags, and went in. unbeknownst to me, the table at the very front right had several seats available and it happened to be precisely next to John Mackey. I grabbed my shy friend Jason and walked us to that table I had eyed.
There were a couple other presenters before Mackey which were very enlightening and informative. One of them had technical difficulties and it seemed that even the tech guy was having issues. I tried to stay back but having had those embarrassing experiences as a presenter myself, I decided I would jump in and help them fix it.
Plant based diets
John Mackey is definitely one of my heroes and a very inspiring person. In his presentation he talks about how a plant-based diet is truly optimal for humans and even if we ate meat, there are ways to make it healthier.
He points out the following:
I. A distillation of the best that science has to offer on what makes for a healthy diet.
II. How to lead a lifestyle that is based in the science of section one.
III. A 28-day plan, which shows in practice–and with recipes–what section two looks like.
If you are wanting to do a jump-start on your health or get even healthier in this new year, this is definitely a presentation to watch about plant-based diets.
Mary Ruwart invited me to do the editing on this video and allowed me to publish it after her.

oh i see your post in a website
Looking forward to watching this. Veganism/vegetarianism is something that is on my mind a lot, as a voluntaryist. I’ve been both, on and off, but it never sticks for this reason or that. I’d feel a little more balanced about it if I knew the meat I consume was from a local farmer, or if I slaughtered the animals myself, but even then. I am not partial to killing.
Anyway, good to hear from you, Luis. As I said, look forward to watching this. Resteemed.
Thank you, brother! I appreciate the message, upvote, and resteem. I have been a vegetarian for 10 years now. I think that vegetarianism is consistent with the ideology of not initiating force... and it keeps my frequency/vibration much higher.
Let me know what you think!
@kafkanarchy84 what did you think?
As cliché as it may be to say: eye-opening. It’s just sad how entrenched into the culture the whole thing is. Pharmaceutical companies are not complaining, either.
I totally agree with him, though. Eat mostly plants, and cut out the fake shit. Living in Japan has made that a little easier for me, but I am still eating a lot of processed foods. A cold shot of reality, though. Eating this garbage really does poison us slowly...
This is a post I needed to see! Been toying with the idea of going vegetarian again - I was one for 4 years, many moons ago, before succumbing to the whiff of bacon :( and so the slippery slope beckoned. I will bookmark this and watch the video later with much interest. Problem is that I honestly love a little meat but hate that a sentient being is slaughtered for my satisfaction. I need to grow some balls and stand in my truth ;) Be well xox
There are some wonderful fake meats that taste a lot like the real ones. Give them a try. Thank you for your comment.
Great article thanks for sharing
Great post. I have seen the video. Very important information here for get a good health. thanks for sharing.
thanks!
Thanks so much for sharing this with us. I've been vegetarian for 24 years and now my 3 kids are as well. I really think it's important to promote plant based diets now more then ever, like John Mckey says especially in this time when their are so many illnesses tied in with our diets.
thank you so much!
