More than a year ago, Chicago authorities unveiled an initiative for those living in the region who might be concerned about lead in their water, to be able to call city authorities and receive their very own tax-funded water testing kit.
The Chicago Department of Water Management was the agency tasked with delivering the kits and the residents themselves were the ones who were collecting the water samples.
They tested almost 3,000 homes (2,797) and those homes were tested over the last 2 years.

They found that for every 10 homes that they collected water samples from, that 3 of them would have lead concentrations at concerning levels.
The results of their analysis also suggests that the problem is widespread, because they collected samples from a variety of different regions in the city and found concerning amounts of lead in those samples.
The problem wasn't isolated to a specific region, they tested samples from homes that were located in dozens of different communities.
Scientists have suggested that there are a great deal of health concerns related to lead exposure. This toxic substance is said to have the potential to fuel cognitive decline and life-long learning disabilities, sleep issues, hearing loss, ADHD, and more.
Previous reports and incidents have suggested that this water problem isn't restricted to Chicago alone, or Flint, but it is one that affects millions of Americans.

Very interesting. As always! Love you blog. One post after another showing how far we've strayed from what was normal just 20 years ago.
It is good to see this happening. If only the fix were as easy in Flint Michigan. In addition to this, thanks for the post on what's happening in Flint. It seems to have disappeared from the mainstream media cycle.
At least there are people worried about dealing with the problem and being able to solve it. In other countries, such as Venezuela, we do not have that possibility and not knowing what the quality of the water we consume is a serious problem. Thanks for raising the issue.
What happened to the people who are supposed to safeguard us from these things? EPA? Hello?
Seriously at first I thought this issue of high concentration of lead on tab water is only in Africa I don't know it a global issues, let the government see to it and find some solutions to it
Flint was a good wake up call for me and my family (though, we should have been on top of this issue sooner). Flint made it crystal clear that there is no reason to think that those in charge of municipal services have the best interests of the citizens they are serving in mind. Their first priority is to their debt holders. We've since purchased a 5 stage filtration system for our house.
another news that accentuates what we already know, organisms do not care about the health of people.
Thank you very much dear friend @doitvoluntarily for giving to know this preoccupying news.
