Drones To Start Delivering Emergency Medical Supplies In Nevada

Today you can find drones being used in a variety of creative ways.

The use of this technology has proven to be wildly diverse, in that we can see drone technology now making its way into a number of different industries worldwide. Drones are being used in real estate, by firefighters, police, sports teams, construction companies, in the agriculture industry, for various deliveries, and more.

One area that has shown a lot of promise for drone technology to help improve the standard of living for many is within the medical industry. Companies and researchers in a number of countries, like the US, Switzerland, and elsewhere, have been looking to drones as an option for delivering various medical equipment and supplies.

There are a variety of projects that have sought to use drones as a sort of medical ferry device.

Researchers have been experimenting with whether or not drones could be used to help with tasks like dropping equipment to rural areas, sending blood supplies when needed, helping after a natural disaster when it's difficult to get to the region, etc.

It won't only be rural areas or disaster scenarios either, they have been experimenting with using drones within major city areas as well, to deliver medical supplies etc between hospitals. It's also been suggested that drones could be used to help heart attack patients, by delivering potentially life-saving AED equipment in a faster time than it could take the ambulance to get there.

Drones have been seen to outperform ambulances on an average of about 16 minutes.

And that could make a big difference in the potential for saving lives. Not only might it be faster and help save lives, but it is likely to be a much cheaper option than those which are currently available on the market today. Drones are already being tested with delivering medical equipment and more overseas and now we might start to soon see them a lot more frequently doing the same thing in the US.

Nevada...

Just recently, a drone delivery startup known as Flirtey, announced that they had partnered with REMSA Health; the Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority. REMSA Health are a private emergency medical services provider from the Nevada region that provide exclusive ground emergency medical services in the Washoe county within Nevada.

In the near future, for those in Nevada who call emergency about symptoms of a possible cardiac arrest, a drone will be sent to deliver portable defibrillator equipment to the scene.

The drones that are expected to be sending the defibrillator equipment to those in Nevada, are going to be launching from various stores that are owned/operated by Flirtey and its partners and commercial clients.

They are already working with authorities in the region and hope to have this program operational by early 2018; starting in the Northern Nevada region.

And if it proves to be successful there, as well as in Switzerland, Sweden, and other areas where researchers are already investigating this use of drone technology, then we will likely soon see many hospitals and emergency services opting for this improvement to their current standard.
