Happy New Year my fellow steemians!

In today's edition of IMPROVING HEALTH OF STEEMIANS, I want to share with you some basic tips that can help you reduce risk for developing heart disease, Type-2 diabetes and other diseases.

We all make promises to ourselves in the New Year but we almost never keep them. Let's make this year different!

Here are ten, easy-to-follow health tips for a healthier you in the New Year.

1. SET SMART GOALS

Its very important to have a goals in life. They keep you motivated and also with goals you can track your progress. If you don't know where you want to end, you won't know how to get there.
Make your goals realistic and attainable. For example , I will walk for 30 minutes every other day in a week or I will go to a gym three times in a week.

2. START WALKING

Try to walk every day for at least 30 minutes. This will help you with controlling weight gain, lowering blood pressure and improving your mental health.

3. DRINK MORE WATER

If you feel thirsty then you are already late with the fluid intake. Try to drink water regularly through the day and always carry a bottle as a reminder that you need to keep drink it.
If you weight 160lbs, drink 80oz of water each day!

4. QUIT SMOKING

I know this is the hardest task, but its the one that will make you healthier then ever. It will also prevent a lot of diseases. As you all probably know, smoking is the leading cause of many cancers so QUIT IT.

5. FLOSS AND BRUSH TEETH REGULARLY

Oral bacteria (streptococci and periodontal anaerobic bacteria) are a common source of infection and are recognized as an independent risk factor in the development of heart disease such as ENDOCARDITIS

6. EAT 5 SMALL MEALS A DAY

Eating five small meals a day will help you with stabilizing blood sugar and energy levels. It will also help you with losing weight.
Five meals a day equals breakfast, lunch, dinner, and two snacks. Try to schedule eating every two to three hours.

7. CHALLENGE YOUR MIND

Mental health is as important as the physical one. Try to challenge yourself every day with some puzzles or try to learn something new every day.

8. GET ENOUGH SLEEP

Try to sleep every day at least seven hours. Set some firm bedtimes and wake times and make sure that the bedroom is quiet dark and relaxing.
Don't use TV, mobile phone and computers right before bedtime.

If you are not getting enough sleep, you may experience increase risk of heart disease, weight gaining and depression.

9. BUILD A STRONG SOCIAL NETWORK

Seek some meaningful relationships and remove toxic people from your life.

10. BE PREPARED FOR MISTAKES

Every now an then, you will 'fall of the wagon'. The most important thing is to climb back and not to quit. As a Phil Dunphy says 'If life gives you lemonade- make lemons and life will be all like whaaaaat?
