You guys may have already seen the #hayrunners tag floating around Steemit this week but for those who don't know.

We have a drought crisis down under. While most of the planet may envision stretches of beautiful beaches with gorgeous white sand, lush green expensive fields and stunning blue mountains the reality is, this is what a vast majority of Australia looks like.

For the past few weeks there has been a CALL TO ARMS for all Aussies to support our drought stricken farmers. My Facebook feed is filled with Aussies helping Aussies. Wether it be the nationwide Bunnings sausage sizzle, or efforts made by groups and individuals ~ everyone in Australia is pitching in.

Hayrunners had simple beginnings. A farmer heard of another farmer's plight, offered to drive him out some hay to help out and that was that. The Burrumbuttock Hayrunners was born.

Since 2014 they have completed 11 successful hay runs throught drought affected NSW & QLD. Their last run, #12, was in February 2017 and according to @bmj their next run will be in January 2019.

It is only fitting that Aussies on Steemit also lend a hand and help a mate, help a mate. It is only an added bonus that we can use this opportunity to promote Steemit in Australia in a way we have never done before.

Details still to come regarding the next run but at least we have a rough deadline and an amount to shoot for.

The BHR Steemit truck

It is our goal to sponsor a truck.

Why are we sponsoring a truck? Well other farmers in the country who have hay to spare donates the hay, the money we are raising will provide the fuel needed to get the trucks to their destination. The drivers donate their time and trucks. It's a huge group effort from everyone involved, one that makes me so proud to be Australian.

A truck will need approximately $2000 AUD to complete the trip.

To promote Steemit we will need to have a banner made to be placed on the truck. Depending on the size we could be looking at somewhere between $300 to $400 AUD. The sign will then be sent back to the team (or not) to be used on the next event.

Perhaps we can even make it team owned? So just say the @mallsballers needed it in Adelaide it can be sent there and so on. Just a thought.

Anyway... :) Our total target is $2500.

I want to thank @bmj for bringing this to Steemit. It's something I've been thinking about a lot lately and I hope everyone can get behind this project.

How you can help

  • Awareness

If you see a #hayrunners post please resteem it. The more exposure we get, I'm hoping, the more funds we can raise. Although we're aiming for 1 truck, can you imagine having the Steem logo on ALL the trucks?

  • Donate a post

It doesn't matter what topic your post is about. If you would like to donate the liquid or full funds from your post to the cause then go for it! The more the merrier! Use the #hayrunners tag and incorporate the #hayrunners banner on your post cover.

Follow and support the tag. Your upvotes and support matters and are very appreciated.

  • Online Raffles

Are you a stacker? An artist? Have skills? Maybe you'd like to donate your work or time in a raffle?

  • Donate

Direct donations to @teamaustralia with #hayrunners on the memo are welcome.

  • Staff

Since this will be quite a big undertaking and we are hoping for huge support on this project, we may need people to manage the project and keep track of incoming donations and #hayrunner posts.

If this is something you feel you would like to do please dont hesitate to contact @bmj @gohba.handcrafts or myself. We are really counting on team effort so any assistance is welcome.

Thanks for this awesome post, and for putting together those awesome banners @bearone.

We're off to a good start with the fundraising, but it's a long road ahead to reach the target. Every contributuon, big or small makes a huge difference for this. It's a big team effort we need.

I'll give this post a resteem in a little while.👍

Thanks @bmj. Finally decided to stop sitting on the post ;). Ive got a few ideas for fundraisers. There's my 2017 round and Im hoping to eventually put my art up for grabs.

We've got 4 months to raise the 80% we still need. Hoping we get there before then!

Hi @bearone, I'm @checky ! While checking the mentions made in this post I noticed that @mallballers doesn't exist on Steem. Maybe you made a typo ?
