Skanör guest harbour

in #harbour6 years ago (edited)

We came to Scanör just when it got dark. Scanör is a Swedish peninsula south of Malmö, when going in our southern direction (towards Kiel) it's one of the few harbours that it's possible to visit without any significant detour. It feels a bit weird to be back in Sweden though.

We circled around a bit, wondering where we could find space for our boat, until a friendly German advised us to stay at his side. It seems to me there is almost no limit to how many boats actually can fit into a harbour if packing intelligently and not caring that the boats in the harbour won't be able to leave without first moving lots of other boats. This guest harbour had employees trying to take care of the intelligent packing, though we arrived too late for such a service.

I felt very clumsy as we moored up. No noteworthy incidents, but one misunderstanding and quite some time consuming due to my clumsiness while trying to attach a rope using the dhingy. I came to think, the typical Norwegian would probably get slightly annoyed and ignored us - but this German was very friendly, even giving us a beer to celebrate that we finally had arrived to harbour.

In the morning I took some photos of our situation. Here is the rope we put across the harbour. Good thing the fishing boat didn't need to get out at 04 in the morning ...

Four boats on our inside

We were also blocking five boats in front of us

Two boats on the outside of the poles. I think the outermost one actually has access to land, the innermost may have access via the other boat.

I was a bit concerned that this rope was too short in the evening ... there would be jerks if there would be waves. Then again, why would there be waves in the harbour? And, since neither my wife nor my neighbour saw any problems, I considered it was probably OK. During the night the wind direction changed a bit and the wind intensified, hence there was a little bit of waves, enough to produce lots of jerks making it difficult for me to sleep. I made the rope a bit longer and added a rubber band; this quick and simple way of dampening jerks using a rubber band is my own invention. My wife thinks it's silly, but I can tell it really works, without compromising the security.

During the day, two boats on our inside left and the other two got reassigned to other places in the harbour, so eventually we ended up innermost. We wanted to leave during the evening, so we decided to break out and stay outside those poles before we got too many boats on our outside. All boats coming and leaving were sailing boats - all until this oversized Swedish boat came, looking for a long time for a harbour place before settling at the outside of the poles (but with land access via the boat behind).

The harbour fee was rather high, but electricity and showers were included. There were capacity issues both with the harbour space, the toilets and laundry. Except for that, a nice harbour, with a nice beach right outside the harbour.

We were considering getting out in the late morning, all we needed to do was to do some laundry, climb the mast and fix an issue with the "steam light", go shopping, and do some tidying in the boat so things wouldn't fly all over the place in waves. It would be nice to see the beach and do some bathing as well - and some sightseeing. In the end we did grill a duck as well, got out in the late evening, and doing only a rough cleaning of the boat. We're a very slow family, kids needs food and attention, and we also lost quite some time due to the harbour situation - three times we needed to move the boat during our stay.

Mange takk for mange fine bilde @Tobixen

Very fascinating story and experience sailor, your experience was really cool since nothing bad seems to happen at last, even the oversized Swedish boat got a space in the harbour, though it was certainly unexpected situation, like unpalatable circumstances. I'm happy things went well at last.

I think it will have been a memorable journey for you.although you got a little bit trouble but you overcome on it.that was a good end.I think many people like you wanted to go there so there was no space for boat.photography is nice.informative post.
