"HAPPINESS CONTEST 01": Treking for 2 Months with my Daughters in the Mountains
Happiness for me is seeing my children wild and free.
It is seeing them getting to explore the world around them and really interact with their natural environment.
Seeing their excitement when they learn and discover things all by themselves.
And allowing them to live close to the earth.
2 years ago, I done a 2 month Trek in the Alpujarra's which is a region within the Sierra Nevada mountain range in the south of Spain with my 2 daughters, a friend @steemama, her son and 2 horses. My children got to experience all of the above and so much more. We walked almost everyday for 2 months, the horses carried our belongings. Sleeping in a tent every night, sleeping so close to the earth.
We woke up every morning in the mountains, in the wilderness, with no vehicles anywhere near us only the sound of the birds, the horses our children and water. Eating our breakfast of oats and pollen, feeling so alive and healthy, breathing in all that fresh mountain air.
Then taking our tents down, grooming the horses before we had to put the saddles and packs on. Having that contact with these beautiful animals. Hearing my children playing near-by, hearing them laugh, watching them run wild. Then we would move out from the camp we had for the night and follow the track, getting to walk beside the horses, not knowing what we would get to see.
So many beautiful places, so many stunning views. Sometimes climbing high, reaching over 2000 metres at one point. Amazed at how my children managed those climbs, how far they could walk on certain days and all the while inventing games along the way. Really seeing their imaginations in full flow. Watching them make art in the earth.
Stopping in the afternoon to cook our lunch, rest our legs and take in the amazing views all around us. Washing ourselves in the rivers and streams we came across Getting into this rhythm everyday that was so rewarding. We are meant to move, all parts of our body and mind are meant to keep moving forward. In doing this we stay healthy and happy.
Travelling by foot feels amazing, the kids did go on the horses sometimes, but knowing that you yourself travelled these distances using only your feet to carry yo, leaves you with such a huge feeling of accomplishment. The only thing we left behind was horse manure to feed the soil. These were some of the happiest moments of my life, being free with my children.

We arrive in Spain with our daughter in a few weeks, can't wait to see this area of the world :) We are looking for a cheap caravan so we can live outside and be 'wild' too...not sure @lumpa will let me have a horse though :)
That's exciting, it is really beautiful down here. let me know when you get down this way x
This is amazing!!! i would love to do something like this
thank you @katrinalebar, you should do it, it is an amazing way to travel and get to see area.
ill definitely be planning one of those adventures soon!
This is AMAZING. Traveling by foot? Breakfast of oats and pollen? (Why pollen, by the way?) Two months traveling with your children? I want to do this. I NEED to do this. I need to take my kids away for the summer and do THIS because sleeping close to the earth, being alive in the world WITH the world? I'm very fired up about this. It's going to the top of my bucket list even though, gasp, I've never been camping.
You should do it, it is so good for us when we reconnect with the natural world. Me and my family do not eat meat and bee pollen is nutrient rich and an easy food to travel with as you only need to take a teaspoon a day. My one worry was that we wouldn't get the food we needed to keep us healthy, we visited small communities every few days and the food available was limited.
Good adventure
thank you @gwenbyyy it certainly was. Thanks for stopping by.
That sounded like an amazing trip. I myself did quite a bit of backpacking and hiking. One cannot feel more free and happy waking up in your tent and smelling the fresh air. I can see why these were some of the happiest moments in your life. Great share.
Thank you @gardenbsquared, yeah it is so lovely being able to sleep so close to the earth, the pace was perfect as we let the children lead and the horses were very content. It was a life changing experience for me and so happy I done it with my girls xx
Fantastic! Love the story & what memories for you and your daughters.
thank you, you two beauties xx
What an amazing experience for everyone involved! I wish I had the minerals to go trekking with my children for 2 months!
Now that's what I call Girl Power!
Thanks Mark, it was one of the best experiences we've had xx
I love this because I absolutely love the nature and that is the only thing that relaxes me and gives me joy.
My happiest moments were when we (I with my husband and two boys) lived on the beach (in our beach house) for 4 months. We had no tv, and we did a lot of fishing, looking for crabs and seashells, playing in the ocean, watch the sunrise and sunset, the stars and the moon and we learned so much from nature and how it works and how beautiuful and important it is for us as humans. The only time we would hide in a house, wich was really an open house, was to hide from the sun, but we still enjoyed the ocean breeze while laying in the hummocks.
I love your post and so glad that you shared this amazing experience with us.
Thank you @joalvarez, for your beautiful feedback, your beach house sounds amazing, did you take any photos ? I would love to see them. Maybe you should share your experience on here, it is so great to share our connections with nature xx
