Ultimate Guitar Works Winnipeg, meet the owner

It has been over a year since I last visited Brian Tataryn, store owner of Ultimate Guitar Works in Winnipeg, Canada. Seeing it is a musical related theme on the Steemit Photo Challenge I bundled up and drove in to the city to pay Brian a visit. My goal was to find some unique guitar pics for @steevc and get myself some much needed strings for my Takamine acoustic electric guitar.

Brian played with Winnipeg’s own Guess Who back in the day. I brought Brian a few of my vintage finds and had him appraise them. When eBay came along I help Brian market some of his more rare guitars to a global audience.

Brian never ceases to amaze me with the scarce nature of his finds. Here he displays a 1960’s era Vox Harlem guitar with ½ the fretboard scalloped, a very unique find indeed.

In the back office he has a wonderful collection of microphones among other memorabilia.

The wall of amps and a stray Dobro are a reminder that the old quality of musical tools of the trade will never go out of style. Much of the vintage finds are coming into circulation as many of the collectors pass on leaving collections of musical instruments and gear. Most of which is being carted off to the dump or sold at auctions or other means.

Brian has been buying and trading vintage gear for over 30 years and is now seeing some collections come his way. I will be visiting Brian throughout the year to keep everyone posted with what's old and available in the vintage musical gear market.
