new superblock (#982123, Einstein@home missing, 26h birth time)

in #gridcoin7 years ago (edited)

Gridcoin users have a new superblock (block 982123, 2017 Aug. 1 12:50:56)

Unfortunately, again a BOINC project seems to be missing :-(

  • Einstein@home (probably due to this)... investigation ongoing

Team users:

  • 1749 with magnitude
  • 2789 without beacon
  • 15375 total users

And again: included the +35% magnitude boost

  • the boost will be, likely, ongoing until the next mandatory Gridcoin version is released (so probably for 2 weeks to give exchanges, ... enough time to prepare)

  • Why did the mag unit drop?
  •    before the superblock contracts it was between 0.2 and 0.225, see here.

There are some misconceptions flying around with the truths here. Allow me to clarify:

  • There is one project missing, correct - Einstein@home. This is 100% due to their servers being down. The Gridcoin network cannot hold off on minting superblocks just because a server is down, as it is a surprisingly large proportion of total time. For example, SETI@Home has a 12h maintenance period once per week. Rest assured, you will collect your owed rewards when the project returns in the next superblock.

  • Whitelist votes were final as far as the dev team is concerned, and the whitelist will be updated. The update was delayed to enable everyone to stake rewards on the projects that will be removed if they had held off staking due to the missing projects. Expect the whitelist changes in the near future.

  • On a personal note, I support the poll etiquette discussion. It would be good to solidify the system.

  • There are concerns about the 5 whitelist polls you mention, see forum and here
  • Yes, the polls definitely need improvement: see published proposal about polls (ongoing since January 2017)
  • What I find interesting is that now with the CENTRALIZED + CLOSEDSOURCED harvest server we had still Einstein missing (see also here)

What I find interesting is that now with the CENTRALIZED + CLOSEDSOURCED harvest server we had still Einstein missing (see also here)

What do you propose? No superblocks if any project is down? How will that be scalable? What if a project goes down permanently - do you suggest we have to go through a full poll process to remove it from the whitelist before we get a new SB?

Einstein was almost certainly down to the project being temporarily down as per your link.

It does look like the temp fix is holding.

Would love for the whitelist votes to be included but I acknowledge you have concerns due to the mag issues. I still think that the problems didn't have much affect on these votes but your concerns are valid and should be addressed on future votes.

Possibly worth getting consensus on what we should do in future with such problems as @xaqfields has started doing:

https://steemit.com/beyondbitcoin/@xaqfields/formalizing-a-poll-etiquette-document-for-gridcoin-blockchain-polls

for everyone, here are the concerns mentioned:

In the real world everyone would cry out when conditions of a poll are effected, and in the virtual world we should be even much much more stricter...

who make this sb ?

Did it to me again, but thanks for the update, didnt know it was missing till i saw this :)

Most people won't even notice, and just stake their rewards after the next SB which will include the project again, provided the Einstein@Home team get their server back online.
