RE: new superblock (#982123, Einstein@home missing, 26h birth time)

in #gridcoin7 years ago (edited)

There are some misconceptions flying around with the truths here. Allow me to clarify:

  • There is one project missing, correct - Einstein@home. This is 100% due to their servers being down. The Gridcoin network cannot hold off on minting superblocks just because a server is down, as it is a surprisingly large proportion of total time. For example, SETI@Home has a 12h maintenance period once per week. Rest assured, you will collect your owed rewards when the project returns in the next superblock.

  • Whitelist votes were final as far as the dev team is concerned, and the whitelist will be updated. The update was delayed to enable everyone to stake rewards on the projects that will be removed if they had held off staking due to the missing projects. Expect the whitelist changes in the near future.

  • On a personal note, I support the poll etiquette discussion. It would be good to solidify the system.

Sort:
  • There are concerns about the 5 whitelist polls you mention, see forum and here
  • Yes, the polls definitely need improvement: see published proposal about polls (ongoing since January 2017)
  • What I find interesting is that now with the CENTRALIZED + CLOSEDSOURCED harvest server we had still Einstein missing (see also here)

What do you propose? No superblocks if any project is down? How will that be scalable? What if a project goes down permanently - do you suggest we have to go through a full poll process to remove it from the whitelist before we get a new SB?
