Hostility is a harsh word, not fully relevant in this context. Generally, things aren't that bad (thankfully). But check it for yourself: How many BOINC projects mention Gridcoin on their front page (or any other page)? How many BOINC projects which are accepting donations, accept GRC? Is Gridcoin mentioned anywhere, except on Top Teams page? Where is this "word of mouth marketing" (mentioned in the poll) actually happening?
Very few, only drugdiscovery@home at the moment (in their notice page, so it'll drop from the front page eventually).

In project forums, team forums (including non-boinc forums which have a team), reddit, IRC.
The poll is painting it a bit too rosy, I am afraid. 10 users voted they had no problems with 'word of mouth marketing', yet I would be hard-pressed to provide a single URL where such marketing is actually happening now (within the BOINC community, excluding crypto-related websites and forums).
Perhaps the poll should have included "I have not tried word-of-mouth marketing within the BOINC community" then?
That would be a good idea, yes. I browse three or four BOINC forums regularly, Gridcoin is mentioned sporadically (maybe once or twice a year). At that level, it's true - we aren't received with hostility. So I guess, one is quick to select "I've had no negative experiences". But in the threads where we were more active (like 4th generation BOINC credit system), we were greeted with some hostilities rather quickly, so things are probably not so rosy in the end.
