GridCoin Web and Android Wallet are now on Main Net
Hello Gridcoin community and Steemit,
I would like to inform that both GridCoin Web Wallet and Android Wallet are now on main network, which means in production.
Web Wallet can be accessed through: https://www.gridcoins.org/
Android Application can be installed via Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.gridcoins.grcwallet
There was a discussion on Slack about providing direct .apk for those who don't use Google Play, however, i decided not to do that for security reasons. However, those who need can built it from source.
As for the source, the following Git repositories are created:
Web Wallet: https://github.com/stefancertic/GridCoin-WebWallet
Android Wallet: https://github.com/stefancertic/GridCoin-Android-Wallet/
Most of functions are moved into class, still few of them are within the code and needs to be moved. I would also like to ask you, that any bugs, proposals or better approaches discuss and deploy directly on github. My goal was not to make it perfect, just enough to get a starting point from where it could be built into more stable and mature software.
A note of disclaimer: This is very early stage of development, and I can't take any responsibility or provide guarantees. I will be maintaining the apps until more people get involved. After that happens, i plan to concentrate on other projects that are missing in my opinion in order to close the GRC ecosystem.
Productive criticism is welcome, what is even more welcome - your commits on these repositories. Everything you commit will be pulled to gridcoins.org. The same applies to Android App.
IMPORTANT
- This runs on main network now, and deals with real currency, so proceed with strict caution.
- This is more a "starting point" rather then a complete product, so don't expect miracles - rather try to make one.
- I absolutely take no responsibility for your money, server security, failures etc.. This needs to be hosted on multiple servers under control of multiple persons in master-master regime in order to provide fault tolerance. However, I believe as more people will involve, this is likely to happen.
This is OpenSource software, unless otherwise stated in separate files such as jquery etc..., authored by myself and other respective developers with licenses in files, with permission given to GridCoin team to use, modify, create derivates or ANY other purpose that benefits the community. If used for commercial purpose (For Profit), a permission could be obtained ether by me or GridCoin Team on slack.
With this post, I am releasing the project to community and moving forward with other projects announced. Will keep you updated.
Thanks,
S.
This is a true milestone!
@hotbit Thanks mate, for all the support in this. I'll move forward with other (grc related) projects that I announced, but if it happens that you come up with something just ping me at anytime.
I sent an email proposing some functionality within the back-end, thought I should help out a bit after looking at the source.
I'm very happy to see an official/community-made online wallet, I had to find one for my friend only yesterday and we couldn't find one other than HolyTransaction which was disappointing. Very grateful to see this come about!
Hey Mate, thanks for your email, i got it, and i'm very glad to have you in contacts. The notices you dropped are very vital, so i'll try to fix them as soon as possible. On the other side, i launched a marketing proposal in another tread, that would hopefully result in reaching wider audience as well as developers. Whatever useful happens on github by anyone will be pulled back to a server backend, so hopefully this project will continue to grow and attract more developers, with much better Ideas. Let's stay in touch.
Hey, what do you think about this, allowing user to volutarily run adds , with the compromise that the money goes into sustaining the app, buying grc and raining it on miners...
Hmm...difficult to tell. Personally, i don't like ads so i did not include them in the app. However, at some point I do agree it needs to make some money in order to be sustainable. I'm not sure about the right approach here, but if userbase continue to grow to a point I could no longer support, I will definitely open a discussion about possible approaches, with ads being one of them. In a good tradition of gridcoin, I think community should decide.
