Google Plus going belly up soon. Could STEEM+SMT provide for a life raft for G+ users and a boost to STEEM?
I know Smart Media Tokens aren't exactly ready for prime time yet, and HF20 has shown us rushing out new features and packing numerous big changes into a single monster hardfork isn't the way forward. And with the exchanges concerns of too frequent hardforks, SMT should probably still not be there when Google Plus goes belly up. But given all that, I think there is a huge opportunity in the whole G+ ordeal right now.
Google has announced yesterday that it is shutting down google plus for consumers . While G+ had been declared dead or dying many times before, this time it seems it is real. Google is pulling the plug, mainly it seems because of their inability to deal with maintenance. Still hearing the echo's from of our desperate screams coming out of the temporal abys of HF20, and with the negative value transaction security bug still fresh in our minds, Steemit INC and our top witnesses can draw some reassurance from the fact that even Google can mess up security and maintenance. But at the same time, Google's failure with G+ and the way it failed should act as a warning that Steemit INC and the top witnesses should up their game and make sure the same faith does not befall the STEEM blockchain or the steemit platform.
At the same time though, with Google Plus going end of life, a huge group of G+ users, most of who likely have no desire to return to Facebook, or they wouldn't be on G+ today will end up without a home unless they are offered an alternative. Could these people be the boost that the STEEM blockchain needs? Could providing a liferaft for these people, a place where they could continue their G+ user experience provide a killer app for SMT on the STEEM blockchain, if Steemit manages to get a sufficiently functional subset of SMT up in time before the curtains close on G+?
I truly think this is something that should be explored, and something worth its own project depending on the timetable for SMT. I think, in theory at least, it should be possible to create a Google Plus-ish site on top of the STEEM blockchain that allows an import of part of the Google Takeout that relates to G+.

Some of these seem like a perfect showcase of what STEEM+SMT should be able to handle if presented right. Time is short. Nine or ten months if projections are correct. But then it seems like such an opportunity for the platform. Provide the liferaft for all these people. Help them restore at least part of their circles and communities, and get a massive inflow of content providing well-networked users that could give a boost and credibility to the platform.
If any of the witnesses, preferably a top 20 one, would get behind a project to create a STEEM+SMT based G+ liferaft website, I'dd definitely donate a day a week of my spare time, working on any backend dev work that makes sense to help make this happen, and I would hope others would be as well. So, Steemit INC, witnesses, could we make this thing real?
Google+ will only go belly up if Alphabet/Google let it.
Google has access both to phone number contact lists (not restricted only to Cellular numbers of Android users, but their contacts too) and to email contact lists.
Google also has access to unreal amounts of cash, and I feel that it mines POW too at least at times when I watch Youtube.
It also mines watching habbits, etc.
With these amounts of Cash and Information, and with its accumulated experience in most parts of engineering and computer science, what would prevent it to compete against other social networks?
STEEM will go down eventually.
It goes down during most Hard Forks and between them too.

How is this a recipe for mass adoption?
Part of what made Facebook and Google (and Skype and Youtube) reach to their current market share are their free service.
I know that it is not entirely free, but whatever complaints I have against Gmail and Youtube, I still prefer to have them than to not have them.

Google has announced to close public part of Google+ in 10 month from now and only keep the enterprise version of Google+. That's set and done.
Does the enterprise part cost to register, or is it a form of LinkedIn, or something else?
I don't know. I only heart yesterday that it exists. Quick search reveals that it's part of the GSuite — so it's not a separate product. And if I understood right part of Enterprise package which is €23 per month:

As for the missing feature: It would be enough if @Busy.org implemented them and Steemit just concentrated on the blockchain itself.
Wait a minute! you mean there were g+ users?
Yes. 3.3 billion registered user and only 10 million active user. Google+ had 10 time more active user then Steemit has registered user. No need to be smug here.
But even that is not large enough for Google.
As many or few as they are, it would be nice to have a way to bring them over to Steem. And for them to bring their circles here.
Google+ has more active user the Steemit has registered user. So that is a huge chance.
