Google+ is shutting down and Steemit is missing outsteemCreated with Sketch.

I must have all heart it by now: Google+ is shutting down in 10 month, next August for private accounts. The enterprise version of Google+ will continue run.

To put it into perspective on how many users are now looking for a new social media network site: Google+ has more then 10 time as many active users then Steemit has registered user. The amount of registered users on Google+ is astronomical.

Millions of Google+ users have started to look for an alternative and do so right away:

They are opening new accounts to test out new new social media network sites to migrate to as you read this. They are not waiting until the last moment.

This could be a great change for Steemit to gain new users. Only it isn't. I'm the only one on Google+ Mass Migration who mentioned Steemit and I don't think many have been swayed to open accounts on Steemit.

Why is that?

Well, it's telling that within a day a new community sprung up on Google+ to discuss the migration away from Google+. And the most asked question is “whether we can create communities there”

But communities is the one feature missing on @steemit, @busy.org and @steempeak.

There had been GUI mockups for communities 8 month ago but as far as I can tell that feature was never implemented.

Users are very reluctant to change there social media network and usually only do it if when there is a pressing need as it just happened on Google+. But the window of opportunity is closing quickly and Steemit isn't ready. Other social media networks will be capitalising on this rare chance.

Sort:

It is hard to generalize - G+ users, like any other collection of thousands of people, are a mixed bag. But most of the ones I have met are smart - smarter than average. I think pluspora was the first thing that came to the attention of many, and it was easy to join and make a start - but there is a lot of investigation going on right now.

As a first glance impression, I would say that steemit comes across as heavily focused on monetization of content. There is nothing wrong with that, but because so much of the in-steemit content has that as a subject, one who is not focused on that aspect has a little bit harder time finding content that IS of interest. But first impressions are sometimes incorrect . . .

Just added this poll as post to the community. Doesn't seem the G+ crowd is particularly fond of blockchain based solutions a.t.m. Think most would rather migrate to a privacy geared corporate option, sadly.

I don't think they understand. Most are even critical of Minds token.

And worse: They mirage to privately owned Diaspora nodes not realising that the admin can see all the data and those nodes can die even quicker then G+.
