Vegan. Good or bad?

in #good7 years ago

With more and more humans choosing not to eat animals or therefore animal products I thought I would put the question out, is it good? Healthy? And why for both arguments?

Now I'm not vegan. But I come across my fair share of vegetarians and vegans. So I thought it would be interesting to hear from real people on the topic which divides so many. Let's face it if your vegan you mostly cannot stand being remotely near someone throwing down a big slab of meat ?

And by all means that's not wrong. But what is right? I question this myself a lot because the truth is we don't know what we eat anymore. From injected meats to pesticide sprayed fruit and veg, what is really good or bad for us?
IMG_2994.JPG

It's a hot topic and will be for the next years. I fear though that it's not just the animals that will lose this battle but also the humans because weather it's saving the animals by eating more plant based foods, it's all being contaminated in some way.

What's your thoughts?
Help us all eat naturally. Organic should not mean pesticide free!!

I respect vegans. But, I could not do it. Meat tastes too damn good. Sorry :(

Personally i dont get it. The missus is that way inclined though. I suppose i just like meat. But mind you some of the food she puts on the table is fkn delish!

What i really dont understand is the view of some people that vegans are wierdos. Guess what that apple is, or the burger rings you just ate...

Nice post. There is evidence that a vegetarian diet makes for a healthier and diverse biome in the guts. But eating animals also has benefits. Like Omega 3 in seafood etc. Remember to grow fruit and vege you need land and therefore also destroy the environment. Just for the record i eat meat and love it but i am moving away from eating so much meat.

I think being vegan is a noble but naïve way of living. I know a couple of vegans who are vegan to reduce the CO2 output, which is noble. The naïve part however is thinking they actually make a difference. A better solution would be to find more environmental friendly sources to generate energy. The CO2 output by animals is much lower compared to the industrial market (Machinery, oil, fossil fuel etc).

The CO2 output by animals is much lower compared to...

It's one of the biggest leading CO2 producers regardless, bigger than all transport combined, and more-so it takes HUGE amounts of water. That's why you keep hearing about droughts if you want to know the truth. Look into our problems finding clean drinking water, that's because of animal agriculture.

A better solution would be to find more environmental friendly sources to generate energy.

We already have them but because people still vote for devilish corporate capitalists they refuse to adopt it as they profit more by selling garbage like oil.

is thinking they actually make a difference.
As an individual you may not, but every fifty people who switch in your area does reduce demand and thus you will make a small impact.
To say it's not meaningful enough is no different from saying giving your leftover food (or a bagel shops leftover food) to a homeless person won't stop poverty so you should throw it away. It's choosing to do bad/evil/etc simply because...well no reason really :)

  • Our problems with finding clean drinking water ( I assume you're refering to 3rd world countries now?) is mainly because of the corruption at a local level. The money distribution in those 3rd world countries is terrible and mostly goes to corrupt leaders, that's why we have problems creating clean drinking water in those areas.
  • What environmental friendly sources to generate energy do we have, in your opinion then? To my knowing the only one would be using nuclear power plants. The others (sun, wind, water) are not beneficial yet, same as Tesla cars. How about the lithium battery, have you seen where those resources come from? The technology, as it is today, is too poor to generate enough energy for us humans to drop fossil fuels. We simply cannot reduce our CO2 output significantly that it has any influence on the environment without drasticly changing our current way of living. Yes, we must do something about the CO2 output, and many bright scientists are working very hard every day to accomplish it. But right now we must either accept we generate CO2, or start living as people do in a 3rd world country.
Don't forget that even thinking about CO2 output is a 'rich man's problem'. Look at poor people in the Asian continent, they burn whatever they can for some warmth. When your child is feeling cold due to a harsh winter, will you let your child feel cold or burn that couch on the street to help him? The problem is much more complex than environmentalist make it look.

is mainly because of the corruption at a local level.

I worded myself badly at the end, I meant any drinking water. I agree regarding clean water, however fresh-water is going away and without desalination plants being built, which they aren't, we're going to be fucked as we're running out of non-salted water.

The others (sun, wind, water) are not beneficial yet

They are, wind is pretty shit, but solar can be good, but the better ones are water as they can provide protection as well from hurricanes and tsunamis.
Tesla cars and their battery are not ideal, but they're still way better than gas-powered vehicles, especially if you don't make them so luxury and reduce the weight.

As to how to reduce it otherwise, consumption in general, ban, outright, or downright hang the dirty capitalists that produce garbage products with the purpose of them breaking down in a short period of time so you have to buy another.
Headsets shouldn't break in months or even a year, they can easily last for 10+ if desired, but instead we use small thin wires and poorly made protectors so that they break earlier, and then they throw all that in the bin and buy a new one.

It's really a simple problem to solve, it's just everybody with the power to solve it benefits from the problem.
They'll reap what they sowed and probably be brutally murdered in a couple decades if they don't go hide out in bunkers though.

Well, about the third world countries I do know about the issues on a more global level, but if we're gonna talk really locally as per why there is no drinking water at all, I must tell you my knowledge ends there. :) I only know what some european aid organizations report regarding the issues, like corruption, low knowledge, little amount of schools etc.

Solar technology is very rapidly improving, but it is nót sufficient right now to replace the technologies (e.g. fossil fuel) we are using currently. Let me show you this citation: '' solar energy has immense potential and could emerge as a major
source of energy, in particular if energy-related carbon dioxide emissions must be reduced to quite low levels and if other low-carbon technology options cannot deliver on large scale. While this outcome is hypothetical, it does suggest that current efforts are warranted to enrich the portfolio of clean and sustainable energy options for the future. '', written by Maria van der Hoeven. (CEO of International Energy Agency).
Or from Apple's HQ building, entirely out of solar panels: '' Clearly, this won’t be enough power to power all of Apple’s HQ operations, but as Steve Jobs mentioned in his case to the Cupertino City council, Apple will be able to generate a lot of its own power and will run from an on-site power facility with the normal grid used as a backup.''

I agree completely about the shitty quality product industries produce these days however, back in the day everything was made more robust /sturdy. Phones these days can't even live longer than 3 years :') But it's definitely not a simple problem to solve, because if it is, why hasn't it been solved then?

From injected meats to pesticide sprayed fruit and veg, what is really good or bad for us?

It's really irrelevant to mention pesticides as they use far more on what they feed animals, it's usually gmo which means worse and more pesticides, as well as due to the process of bioaccumulation when you eat meat, per calorie, you get about 10-20x as much pesticide as you would from vegetables, and way less nutrients of course.

The way I see it there's no argument against veganism other than "I don't care." And by that I mean not that you don't care about something, but everything. You don't care about your health, the planet, the future of the kids of this world, your future, the animals, nothing.
Otherwise, you're contradicting yourself and going against yourself by not being vegan.
If someone wants to eat dead animals and their secretions, go for it, just expect no sympathy from me when you're screaming in pain and incapable in your mid 70s while I'm happy and fully functioning, nor expect sympathy when the crimes you allowed to happen and caused accumulate into a migration of billions of people to your home country (most likely), and don't you dare hold the blood that you will spill in that hell on me, because it's entirely done by your choices.

Thanks for raising such an interesting and important topic.I am a vegetarian for a year now. Although I was very fond of eating meat earlier. But one day I realized that I simply can not physically eat meat since this is a consequence of cruelty to the living organism

It's very hard if you can't get passed the animal cruelty part anymore. I respect your choice and wish you all the best

Thank you. This is only my choice and I have no right to impose it on anyone. Enjoy the life and the food that you have chosen ))

Thank you for sharing your view. There is no right or wrong. The world needs to gather and get rid of contaminated foods. Meat and plants need to be safe.

i think people like me cant eat a meal whitout animal meat
Nice post

I too crave red meat, thank you for your comment I'm following you all.
